Screenshots of all character models

On my computer, if I view a character model in the GM Viewer, I get to see the outline, but not the texture. This is REALLY annoying. Therefore I have a request to make of anybody who has a working GM Viewer. Can you please make screenshots of all character models and upload them to the FTP with as filename the model's name? That would be most useful for me, because I am wanting to re-assign the character models, but for that I need to see what they look like. Preferably without having to start the game all the time.

What! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
Let's try to save time as it sounds like your viewer.ini file is corrupted.

Delete it.
Then run GM_View.exe and manually set the interface to the proper model, and then texture locations.

That should work, and once done, exit the program so it will save a new viewer.ini file.

I am sorry to tell you: That doesn't work. I suspect it has something to do with Windows Vista. I have heard of other people using Windows Vista and having this problem as well. Strangely enough, I DO get to see the texture for locations, ships and weapons, just not for characters. It is really weird and REALLY annoying. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Ugggh, then its an issue of Gm_view becoming obsolete.
DirectX, Vista, and laptop graphic chips only make it worse.

I remember going from DirectX 8 or 9 to 9.c and the viewer loosing its ability to show proper lighting for the character models. Now, it's as if they are always in the shade, rather dark.

When doing my last characters like Becka, or my last ships, I really don't know how they'll look until I get them in game. It's a lot of trial and error.

Well, good luck!

Thanks. So I really hope somebody can make those character model screenshots. If they're done, I can also use them to update the characters list on my website and then we can again use that list to assign the models better to the different nations and different purposes. Most notably a better ship captain distribution. I also intend to make a full ships list with a screenshot of each ship so that we can decide the nation for each ship.

I have Vista too, and have the same problem with the GM viewer. Hope this will be fixed...

I can't see it being fixed. Who at Microsoft cares about the GM Viewer? I hope at least we can get those screenshots; then at least we'd have a different way of viewing all models.

Note to somebody willing to help with this: You don't need to do them all at once. I've got patience, so if you can just do a couple a day, that'd still be grand. I first need to sort out the ships anyway, so I won't get straight to the character models just yet.

SEE!?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" /> THAT'S why i love my good ol' Windows 2000. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

Pieter, perhaps what Mings suggested here might help.

I can try that. Good one, Petros. I'll just need to convert all textures to .TGA but that is quite possible. Hadn't thought of that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

What Pieter means is that he will have to convert the compressed *.tga.tx files that POTC uses into regular *.tga.

The GM viewer shows tga.tx but the tool requires the *.tga versions.

Nice links though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

That's what I meant, yes. The TX Converter can do that in batch, so that's not a problem. It's unfortunate that I'd need to have both the TGA and TGA.TX files on my HD at the same time; that uses HD space that I could otherwise use for different purposes. But so be it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
