just got the gme today but the battles are so slow. sailing around is fine but the battles are very slow moving, and thats with minimum detail. any else agree?

it's fine on my machine... sometimes to the point of being a bit too fast. It lags a bit when there are three ships on the screen though, but that's it. Not TOO bad.

Sys requirements:

- Operating System: Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP

- Processor: Pentium® 1.0 GHz or higher

- Memory: 256 MB RAM

- Hard Disk Space: 1.2 GB Free

So you are barely above the basic requirements. Be happy that it runs at all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

The fact is though, that the ships doesn't move and turn as fast in battlemode as in normal sailmode. So that could be the problem. They're supposed to be like that. It was like that in the original game too, I know 'cause I've played it a few weeks ago.

have to disagree. in the original pirates speed all depended on the wind. if u were a sloop i could turn in a sixpence. i plan to upgrade my computer shortly so hopfully that will help. if it doesnt then for me the game will be ruined as the battles as they stand are so tedious that im gonna uninstall till i upgrade in january

Ah, but it does depend on the wind in this too, and the original did have a bit slower battles than normal sailing. I never said anything about being independent on the wind.

Tony, they ship battles do slow down a tad. I think it's because they are designed to be a bit slower, but I also think there is some inherent lag in that part of the game engine. So, with your minumum specs, it's probably aggrevated.

Well, my computer's mobo took a dump and until I get another board, I've been playin the game on my old P3/733, 64MB Geforce2 MX and I'm not having any problems with ship battles. I have the shadows and shaders turned off and the detail level set at in the middle. In fact sometimes I think the ships move _too_ fast, my sloop can turn on a dime and avoid cannon balls like a jet fighter avoiding an AA missile!

I was surprised how playable the game is on this ancient rig. The only part that's truly too slow are the land battles, they take forever.
