Sid Meyer's Pirates Vs. Tortuga

Hi all,
my impression is that the gameplay of the new Syd Meyer's game Pirates is very similar (for naval battles, trade and missions) is very similar to the game "Tortuga" by Ascaron.

Which "Tortuga"? The one out under the name of "Pirate Hunter" (the Port Royale `spin-off`) in the US or the one just being in development?

There must be a game named Tortuga.

Its actually a hard one, Tortuga is a cheap spin off of Port Royale.

But it can be argued SM Pirates! is a refined 3d version of Tortuga, so yeah they do have similarites. Tortuga did try to copy Pirates! there is no doubt about htat, but they screwed it up a bit by leaving some of the fundemental choices out, like capturing towns.

Buts all games pirate games borrow heavily from Pirates! snd the Pirates! is only a remake so thats where the similarities are.
