Silver Train and Treasure Fleet ?

Justarius

Landlubber
In the early 1987 Game there were certain periods and routes for these two treasure transports. If I remember right only one could be catched on the seas, because the other traveled town by town on land.

In the remake I often get the message in the taverns that a "Treasure Ship" with loads of gold will arrive at e.g. Rio de la Hacha. But even when I parked my ship in front of the city for months, no "Treasure Ship" arrived. Sometimes I sneaked into town just to get the same message "The Treasure Ship will arrive in bla bla bla soon"....lol

Whats your experience ? Did ya ever catch it ?

Hi Justarius,

Yes I use that information all the time to get my hands on the loot the ships are carrying.

I believe that the problem is down to the 2 restricted view options available. I've experienced the same problem you describe. What I frequently do to ovecome this is to switch into chase view, and do a 360 degree turn with the ship just so I could pan around to see everything, and I've often discovered that the ship I'm after is just behind me.

You can only see your ship in sideways view or directly behind it (chase view) by default. If you could independently of ship direction, rotate the view around your ship by 360' then you wouldn't miss these other loot carrying ships. At the moment try chase view and do a 360 with the ship every now and then.

I hope it helps.

I guess what you mean by "sideways view" is the isometric view from above. Why would you see anything in a 360 turn in chase view that you wouldn't see in the view from above where you can see 360° around your ship anyway?

I am not sure if this is the same for everyone, but I can see further when I am looking from the ship as opposed to the view from above. Although, obviously when looking from the ship I am only looking in one direction, and have to physically turn the ship to see all around.

EDIT: From a post I made in another thread;

>>I just ran across a "fleet" of three treasure galleons just north of the island that Trinidad is on. They were all sailing in a row to the West. They all said they were bound for Cumana. It was July 16, 1669. The problem is, they had almost no gold on them, around 400 each ship.

Based on their location, I am thinking they just arrived in the Caribbean and Cumana would be there first stop for replenishing and such. Thats why they had so few gold... Maybe I need to figure out what time they complete thier round trip and start back to Spain.

Perhaps I should have followed then and noted what they do and where they go

** UPDATE**

After boarding and taking all three ships I then continued sailing West. I stopped at the Pirate town just before Margarita. The barmaid told me the Treasure Fleet was heading for Cumana with a load of Gold Bullion. Liar LOL

Because when you zoom out in chase view, you can see further, like the horizon for example.

in the original 87 game (speaking of the C64 version, thats the one I played) you could catch the silver train in towns only and the treasure fleet could either be in a town as well, or you sometimes found a spanish galleon with thousands of gold pieces then you caputered the "fleet" as well. Both could be found inside the same town at the same time sometimes. Well that was in Puerto Bello, when the gold from the train would be transferred to the ships.

I don´think that it´s a problem of the view, cos when I´m cruising in front of the city I would definetly see every ship entering or leaving the one. Especially when you have the best spyglass and could zoom far out....

I have sacked Panama and I just now sacked Havanna. No Silver train in Panama. But you must be careful which direction you start in after you land on shore, as the game will tell you you need to turn around and head back inland if you are not on a precise course to Panama. I guess the land mass is so narrow there its easy to try to march back out to sea. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" />

What a shame...I've never seen even two treasure galleons sail anywhere close to each other and they're always just on their way to Rio De La Hacha...

Well, circumstances change, BUT, in the original Pirates! the treasure fleet was on a schedule.

I saw three Treasure Galleons on the date and location I posted above. IF... they are on a schedule maybe someone could hang out around that location on that date and see if they show again, then follow them, or take them .. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Of course I could do that, but I seem to have a second career locating Montalbans Hideout and hidden treasure for others. LOL 8 for 8 so far. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yes, one player saw 5 Spanish Treasure ships. They get together sometimes like with the group of 3, and probably with the biggest fleet near Havana. Then they split and may get a military escort, but the military escort is carrying most of the gold. Like one treasure ship with a military escort, and the other 2 together by theirselves.

Ain't seen much of a silver train, but that may have been only in the 1560 time period, in the original game.

And it probably just be at a city, back in the original game moving around from city to city.

Yes the Silver Train is toast...

Well, found what I think WAS the treasure fleet (emphasis on WAS) it was two treasure galleons, the way you can see they're together is when holding your mouse over them, the text appears on both ships. It was all the way down near Cathagna (or what ever it's called). Does the treasure fleet always start with four ships at Trinidad?
