Sneaky Trader Mod - Update and help needed

Alan, if you get the "outside" soundbytes to work in the game, I'll be darned impressed and send you a request to edit one of mine! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Yes, they are all just .wav files. You would THINK just any old .wav file would work, but nooooo, not, at least, on MY computer. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

It's the ini's, and also of course your character profile where you need to be sure the "Gr_whatever.wav" is the designated wavfile to play.

Seriously, I tried with outside files and it either does not work or the sound is screwed up and very low and distorted, or it even can crash the game. I think it's the way the game handles playing the sounds - All I can figure is that you have to have it at a certain kHz (I think 22) and recorded MONO... I tried that but the results were really crappy. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Dunno what else to say. I'm not at home, but will be tomorrow and I'll be able to look into this further. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

meh. I'm going as basic as possible with this quest -- crude but effective are the keywords. so I found some existing but rarely used bits of people singing in funny `high-pitched` voices.

Funny, so very many extra unused sounds, but they're all in Russian...

Heh, yes. I like the ambient sound, very interesting stuff in those directories... I love the one that has the person sneezing in the church - if you time it right, you can go talk to the priest who will say <sneeze> "Bless you, my son." <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Huh. Looks like they're `bog-standard` 22kHz/16b/mono files.
Or at least that's what sndrec says. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Yeah, there's tons of stuff there. Taunts too, which I've never seen used. (Or "It's a pirate! RUN!").

<!--QuoteBegin-NathanKell+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NathanKell)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Huh. Looks like they're `bog-standard` 22kHz/16b/mono files.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->I know, and that's what I used when I edited and saved my edit but the output SUCKED, even though it sounded fine in the program AND in WinAmp when I played it... In the game it was muffled and VERY `lo-gain`...

Are there MIP maps for audio files? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I've listened to just about every sound in the game by now... so many aren't used. There're some for an Italian, and a few for a lady governess (!), and an awful lot of Russian ones...

So, I'm just picking and choosing what sort of fits. There are so few women... there are NO spanish or portugese women sounds at all.

Did you get the Sea Dogs files too? There aren't as many, but I used Sea Dogs soundfiles for both Fred Bob and Estrella in the FBQ...

Dunno where to get them. I tried downloading the SD mods once, but since I don't have the main game they would't allow themselves to be installed.

Ah, well, then you need to get the game to do that. I got mine off of eBay, that may help if you can't find it in a store where you are.
