Some annoying bugs (?)

Hey guys,
I haven't played PotC for some years but decided to give it another chance because I remembered that was some good game.
First thin I did was looking for mods (I always do that when I play an older game again) and I found this beautiful looking build mod.
Downloading and installing worked fine and the first minutes of gameplay were great but then the bugs started.
I installed PotC (clean install), Build 13 Full, Build 14 Alpha 9 Full, Alpha 9.5 and Alpha 9.5 Patch 1.
Here's a list of what doesn't seem to be right to me:

<b>Fast Travel does not work</b>
It worked when I started the mod for the first time but seemed to disappear from the action list.

<b>Location Icons are gone</b>
From time to time the icons which appear when you're standing in front of a door or a teleport don't show up. Pretty annoying when you search for a specific building.

<b>Collision with walls</b>
My character can almost 'fly' through any wall and out to the sea if I use the A and D buttons (strafe left/right). There's also no animation for these sidesteps.

<b>Canons don't fire</b>
When I'm in a sea battle I sometimes can't fire my canons if they're loaded. I have to hit the space button several times to fire.

<b>Weird plants and missing alpha channel</b>
Around the towns appear strange looking plants which seem to be the top of palm trees but they're on the ground. You can also see that the alpha channel for these leaves doesn't work.



And for the second 'question':
I've seen the Multilanguage Patch for the Build Mod, it does include incomplete translations in french, polish and russian, right? I would love to see a german translation and would offer my services to create this translation. If somebody's interested, please contact me via email: squall0831@googlemail.com

Some quests (sidequests usually) disable Fast Travel and sometimes it isn't turned back on. Everytime I see one of these I try to fix it, Do you know when it turned off?

I remember this happening to me as well... I think to fix it save the game and reload it and that should fix it (if not save, close, open, load should make them appear again)

Easy fix <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> just don't use the A and D buttons <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" /> (I do think there is a way to disable it but I'm not sure)

Sometimes this happens if all your cannons on that side are not able to shoot. Hit the button "v" I think in First Person Sailing view and this will cause your cannons to fire where your aiming <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Do you mean in Jungles and stuff??? If this is the case you can cut them down and use them as planks (Not 100% sure on this one)

But despite our various attempts to add collision detection to this, it remains a horizontal teleport.
A teleport without animation (we don't HAVE an animation for it and only VERY recently got the tools with which this would be possible to work).
And a teleport without collision detetection. If we're ever able to fix it, we will. In the meantime, it'll be up to the player to make proper use of it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Those models were added in a rather weird way (weapons on invisible characters).
Unfortunately the alpha maps won't work properly on those and they're walk-through and frequently glow-in-the-dark too.
We have yet to figure out a way to fix this properly.

Which can still take a long time. There's just too much still changing, making it very hard to keep a translation up to date.
But if you're willing to work on it, we'd certainly be willing to point you in the right direction. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Some people in the past have wanted to start on translations, but never finished. If you search the forum on "German" and "Translation", you might find some.
Post in the threads you find or send the people a PM; maybe you can get something going?
 
OK, I managed to make Build 14 work as it should be. I'll wait with a translation until a more stable and finished version is available.

Now there's another problem.
I play the Jack Sparrow storyline but when I helped that woman who's looking for her sister it says "Go to Island" after sche talked to me in the tavern.
Where is Island? :p
 
If it was the Brin - Brinkley woman - then the island is Nevis - pirate settlement <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
 
Please check that you used Build 13 Final - not Build 13 Full. The last release of Build 13 was the "Final" one.

Found the pirate settlement, but what should I do there? The Questbook says 'I know there is pirate settlement'. I talked to everyone in the settlement, went everywhere but I can't find something that would hekp me with the quest.
 
What happens in the pirate settlement depends on what happened in the tavern and what choice you made. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

In Bridgetown tavern room, you agree to help Brinkley woman - leave room - in main tavern room Susan Shaypen should talk to you - quest book should update and give you indication of the various paths you can now follow - some of them are dead ends at the moment. It appears you might have picked one of those.

Clue: - When the choice is available helping Shaypen is a good thing to do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> If you don't do it first time there is a second chance on some paths.
 
So I have no other choice than starting a new game? Or ist it possible to pick up the storyline again on a different island?
 
Do you have any savegames from before that? If not, make sure to keep some older savegames next time you try.
There's another update coming withing a week, I'm hoping, so you'd have to start a new game then anyway.

BTW: I'd recommend not keeping the previous poster's quote in your post all the time; it gets confusing as it stacks up. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
 
This is a suggestion all round... When not sure what to do on the island go to the tavern and talk to the tavern keeper... Most of the time the tavern keeper will give you very good information or have a hint in their dialog that will allow them to continue

I sailed to Tortuga with Susan, met Bootstrap Bill and we all together sailed to Nevis.
Good so far, but now I'm told to search a smuggler named Eastwood. If I'm not mistaken he's a NPC around the strange house on Nevis. Inside this House is the Brinkley woman, lying on the floor and I can do nothing to her (except killing her <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />)
Am I doing this quest the wrong way or is it once again a dead end? Brinkley doesn't move and Eastwood tells me he's busy.

Nope... you need to have Bootstrap and Susan with you, and then go and see Brinkley on the ground and then walk out and there will be some dialog with Eastwood I think and then Barbossa will turn up and Bootstrap will leave with him
 
Anyone know why the governor doesn't appear and i'm basically frozen and stuck after escaping from jail and talking to the governer (on New Horizons after being put in jail before redmond is recaptured by britain)? i get teleported to the governors office and he isn't there...i know this game is one giant glitch/bug but for the default storyline to break so easy is just pathetic.
 
One question... Is it night time???

We have it set up so the governer <i>should</i> be there 24/7 but unfortunantly he is not.. so if it is night time try during the day and hopefully it works
 
That's probably it then, thanks. btw does anyone know what the .tga filename for the Blaze Devlin armor textures are? i'm wondering why the golden armor is only gold on the front with that model. i want to change it to make the back plate texture the same as the front in photoshop but have no clue what the .tga filename would be..

i've looked through every character .tga and most of the other textures and can't find it anywhere, so i'm really lost now haha.

The texture files are: BlazeN.tga and GuardsmanEng_3b <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
 
Ahh i knew it probably had to involve another characters texture, those particular textures have a huge block of white and the actual textures are in the top corner..i was just going down the list with the file converter, so i didn't realize that file was more then a buckle hahah. i woulda never found it.
 
GM Viewer tells you which textures are used by a certain model. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />
