Some Suggestions for a better Build

How about something similar to a Dagger Pistol which was used in the 16th-17th Century.

The idea was to still have a suitable weapon for close-quarter fighting after you pulled the trigger and missed.

Or being able to equip 2 Swords simultaneously. or a Sword & a Boarding Axe.
 
Yeah thats wat i was thinking, a nice boarding axe, i saw some models of them in the store... make em unblockable.

I know this sounds like a lot of work but want about changing currency... to peices of eight, and national currencys... forget that thats to much work... how about commendering some ships... have a character on the port who says that a certain ship is unguarded and u pay him off.. and u have a new ship... and ur orignal ship becomes iether berthed or captured. Maybe wen u berth a ship they can be commendered and u have to find out who and chase them...
 
Some very nice ideas about commandeering ships. Would be nice to make it a bit harder though. First you should figure out what ship is unguarded and where she's lying in port, maybe bribe the guards you do find. Then fight some of them. Then board the ship and there might be enemies there as well, because it was all a trap. But if you fight them all, you get the ship. About two swords/pistol-blade combinations. Pistol-blade should be possible by making adding two items, one blade, one gun to the game. Then make some changes to LAi_events.c to make the game switch between the two. You wouldn't be able to use another blade or gun ingame in that case though. Using two swords would be pretty impossible, I think. The game's animation doesn't support it.
 
I like the pistol/dagger a lot, also adding boarding axes would be cool! I was just doing a little research about the currency thing and (in the caribbean at least) there was little recognition of a nation's coinage since they flowed so freely from island to island they went strictly by weight most of the time. I'm a big lover a fine detail but I'm not sure it would add much to the game and there's the problem of how this would function on a practical level.

It would need to keep track of money seperately and then would it have to be exchanged? The userers could be emploied here I guess but...

A thought I had about fighting is adding different fencing styles! True, the annimation for fighting (the limp-wrist counterballance) is French and that can't really be changed but what about a choice at character creation that allow you to choose:

1) French: +10 break block; -5 block; -5 damage
2) Italian: -5 break block; +0 block; +5 damage
3) Spanish: +0 break block; +5 block; -5 damage

Or something to that effect.

Another silly possibility: Whips! If you could restrict the attack annimation to exclude the forward thrust you could have a nice bull whip added that would do fairly low damage but has excellent range and might get a stun result. Just a thought.


Also, regarding ship berthing, could it be made to work where you could berth a ship at an open beach where you have a careenage workshop? Maybe make it a step-up from the normal careenage that allows for it and maybe better repair ability then the basic one? This would be useful if you're playing as a pirate and don't have access to a lot of ports.
 
I like the fighting style option. but it would be extra effectif if you use a blade with it that is suitable for it frech for example is more effectief with light swords like rapiers, and spanish with sabers, an toledo `s and italian with the schiavoina and highlander for example
