Spain troubles (Peter Blood)

Sankis

Landlubber
I recently completed the prologue for Peter Blood and escaped Barbados with the Spanish Frigate.

I then began to explore, etc a bit before returning to england and recieving a mission from the English governor to sneak into portobello and make contact with an informant in the church there.

Meanwhile, I'm sailing the flag of England (as was default for my character) with England Hostile (Though they do not act it), the Dutch Hostile (they do act it), the French hostile (they, too, do not act it). Spain is listed as neutral.

Upon reaching Portobello I'm fired on immediately. Doing so with a spanish flag gives me the same result. If I manage to reach the town by landing elsewhere, I'm accosted by a guard and called a spy, where I'm then attacked.

I went to la vega to see if I could bribe them back to liking me, but unfortunately I can do that fior everyone BUT the spanish. I'm really at a loss here and it's quite disappointing. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this?

England is at war with Spain.
An Peter Blood is english beside anything else.
So they will always fire upon you as long as they recognize you.
Boost stealth as much as possible.
And try to enter keeping low profile and via a shore or smth(form exit to jungle area -> city), on the island.
That way you'll only have to fool the guards at the city gates.
Once inside fast travel doesn't work , find way to church or whatever walking.
Avoid "are you bored of smth" and "do not distract me from my duty" guards , while in city, cause that's their check on you (stealth - I guess) and you'll get recognized as spy and attacked - so keep a few steps distance from any guard.

Yeah, just don't take those kinds of missions until you boost your stealth considerably. Sail in under a false flag in a small ship. If you arrive at night, the pier and gate guards won't be there (the patrolling ones will, but they're easy to avoid).

So I'm not bugged or anything? Good to know.

What's a good way to raise stealth? And is there any way to drop this quest? It's expired, anyway, I think. It's been months since I took it but I still cannot take another governor quest.

And am I forever going to be enemy of the Spanish as Peter Blood? Am I locked in the english missions now?

Hm, ways to raise stealth ,only dangerous - set flag of spain (in your case) and go near forts but still at a safe distance.
They will recognize you (at first ) and your stealth will increase.Kind of boring , at lvl 31 I still have stealth 12 cause I haven't found a pleasant way to raise it .

Some missions are failed if the given time expire.Check if you still have the mission in logbook at quests entry. If not it's failed.
Given there's no way to determine politics and I don't think they change in time - you'll be forever Spains enemy cause you're english.
Play with spanish char if you like to see spanish line of quests .

Trinkets. Check street merchants and venture into dungeons once in a while. Right now I have +60 to my stealth skill from trinkets. Without my charm boosting bling I couldn't bluff my way past a wharf rat.

If the quest has expired, speak to the governor. He'll chastise you and the quest will be marked as finished.

You can buy a Spanish privateer patent, effectively switching your nationality to Spain, but then you'll be the enemy of England. You can also buy a trading licence, which functions as a free pass into a nations towns, but it's time-limited, rather expensive, and generally not worth it unless you specifically plan to do some major trading. You probably won't even be able to afford it with a new character, and an experienced character can just sneak in and not waste money.

No, you only become locked into a nations quest line after you accept the first quest from the Governor General (that would be Modyford, in Port Royal, for England).

Nice info Sordid - I didn't knew all this , that you can switch sides beyound your nationality, sorry for the wrong info.

Well I haven't actually tried that, but the game says so when you right-click the little flag in your portrait.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'll just continue doing other things in the carribbean until I can raise my stealth to an optimal level or the quest expires.
