super repair during battles or glitch?

so i've noticed duuring a battle my enemies will never lose more than 1/2 thier sail points. is this a glitch? or are they fixing their ship during battle? I usually use chain shot to rip the sails up and slow them down, then move in for a boarding attack so i can sell the captured ship at port. But i notice i will let loose a volley, it hits and does sail dammage, but the sail dammage indicator over the ship will jump right back up. it seems i can never get that blue bar less than 1/2 way or 3/4. anyone else notice this? or have this happen?

Yes ... I have seen this. The Captain of that ship may have the following abilities ...

1. ShipDefenseProfessional {Elite Naval Defense}
General damage received ship down by 25%. Chance of receiving critical hit down by 70%.

2. InstantRepair {Quick Repair}
Repair ship quickly. Requires wood for hull, and canvas for sails. Cannot restore fallen masts or depleted crew. Good for up to 65% of the ship's HP. Can be used once every 90 seconds.

Eventually you should be able to bring down his sails but if you don't have the attribute (shredder) it may take longer. This is only based on my experience. If you capture the captain you can check his abilities to verify this when he's your prisoner.

NOTE : As far as seeing the indicator jump ... you maybe seeing the damage being calculated "on-the-fly" as opposed to seeing it change only once. I've noticed that the more modifier's the more the jumping before it settles down with the final battle damage ... which can sometimes appear to be no damage at all, or perhaps very slight damage.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Yeah, I think the flickering of the indicator is simply user interface lag, nothing more. And you can get the indicator all the way down if you completely dismast a ship.

Even if you completely dismast the ship it still retain some of its sails. Probably the captains pants... And the curious there is the completely dismasted ship still can maneuver and turn his boards for salvos. This obviously made to preserve the challenge but in reality a ship without masts can rotate only if towed by a boat... which obviously is not the case.

Yeah, I really hate that. I rip a ship's sails off, he's going headlong into the wind (which I believe in nautical terms is called "in irons") at 0 speed, but he's still able to rotate and bring his guns to bear. Which kinda makes chainshot useless, since you don't really get any advantage from disabling a ship that you would in reality. I wonder if this could be modded.
