The Black Pearl--automatically hostile?! (Build 11)

Running through the 'treasure chest' quest, I talked to the shipyard owner at Oxbay about the chest he wanted me to deliver. `Yadda-yadda`, guy on Falaise de Fleur. Right. My relations with France are a bit strained, to put it mildly, but I was headed there to smuggle some stolen goods anyway. Here's where I ran into a HUGE problem. The Black Pearl showed up, per the storyline, but it was IMMEDIATELY hostile! My galleon (cargo ship) fired on it before I could stop it, and now I'm stuck with the Pearl chasing me (and killing me!) as soon as I leave FDF!

What the heck happened here?! Is there any way to fix this, or am I doomed to go back to an earlier save, try to "sail to" somewhere else before my other ship can attack, and PRAY that the Pearl isn't waiting for me when I leave? Has anyone else run into this problem? I can only assume it's a build 11 thing, because in the unmodded version, the Pearl is always neutral to me (a gray target). In this one, it was immediately a RED target.

HELP! :x

You are doomed. You have no chance against it, so you have to go back, and reload a save. sorry, lad. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

Okay, I'm screwed. It doesn't matter whether or not I fire on it. EVERY TIME I leave Falaise, it's waiting to fire on me. Is there a fix for this? If not, the build's more or less ruined for me, and I'll have to go back to the unmodded version (where at least I can finish the game!). I REALLY don't want to do that, but unless there's something in the code that can be changed, I'm not sure I have much choice.

UPDATE: I've tried changing my colors, as well as hoisting a pirate flag in battle. Neither did anything to help my relations with the pirates (which I assume is the cause of this problem). Is there any way to change my pirate relations in the code, and have it take effect `mid-game`? At this point, I'm at a total loss. I can't outrun or outgun the BP, and even if I <i>don't</i> fire on it, it's waiting for me every time I try to leave FDF. HELP!

Has ye tried warpin' tew anudder shore just as soon as ye be back in yer ship? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Ye might be able tew escape day way! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Yep, I tried it. The moment I go to sea mode, the BP is firing on me, and I can only sail to it, not to another location. I'm seriously tempted to edit the ships_init.c file and make my particular ship MUCH faster, in order to outrun the BP. That seems to be the only way I'm going to get away from it--but it doesn't guarantee that it won't appear again the next time I leave map mode (assuming I ever GET back to map mode).

I got away from it, it should engage your other ship while you escape <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

Hmm... Fred Bob also be a havin' trouble wid de BP whilst at Falaise de Fleur shortly after installin' Build 11! Reason ye cain't warp away be 'cause o' de Coastguard an' Coastraiders Mod, which be puttin' hostile ships in yer pathe an' a makin' de warp locations unavailable!Fred Bob got so frustrated he be endin' up adjustin' de Coastguard an' Coastraiders Mod as a result o' dat headache! Ye might be edittin' de Build_Settings.h file, down toward de bottom, an' either turn off or turn down de number o' pirates generated... see if'n some o' dat heps! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" />:

Okay, I've found a solution! It isn't the one that you describe, Fred Bob. Are you hostile with France when you encounter the BP? On a desperate hunch, I went down to QC first and paid a visit to the diplomat. About $171k later, I was neutral with France. I sailed back to FDF and encountered the BP. I'm not sure if it was hostile--I didn't want to waste time checking--but I jumped to the FDF port, then immediately sailed back out. The BP wasn't there!

That leads me to conclude that the BP reacts as a <i>French</i> vessel in FDF waters, rather than a pirate vessel (pirates are still hostile towards me). If anyone else has this problem, try making sure you're neutral with France BEFORE you encounter the BP!

YArr! Good jo, matey! An' now ye be on yer way! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
