The Game's Biggest Annoyance, Can I Change?

Artaxerxes

Landlubber
I'm lovin the game, but the biggest annoyance BY FAR for me is how quickly crews become unhappy/mutinous.

I really just wanna have more time to relax and sail around freely without having to worry about having to make a big score every 30 freakin seconds in order to keep my men happy.

I suppose the unhappiness is fairly realistic in terms of how many months you've been at sea, but with how quickly the time passes in the game... Well, it takes like 20 minutes for a brand new crew to be unhappy and this just royally PI$$E$ me off!

I'm sure this topic has been raised before but I couldn't find anything current on the boards. If there is some mod out there that adjusts this or any way I can mod this myself that would be great.

1) There are trainers that you can use to add yourself 1 000 000 in gold that should keep your crew happy eternally.

2) Or you can use the first part of the game to hoard that much loot and then relax and sail around without having to worry about anything anymore...

Hmm. Well, how do you use these 'trainers' ?

However, that sounds kinda cheesy... I'd still like to have to do well in the game normally, just have more time before I have to start stressin.

Maybe there is some way to boost the effectiveness of the bonus items/happiness items you can get. I'm sure it must be possible to mod new items into the game. Maybe someone could make a loyalty item with super powerful properties?

Or maybe is there a way to just slow down how quickly time pases? This would be the best possible solution.

The best method I have found it to go crazy for gold in the early stages - and then to keep the crew small. With under 100 crew, you can keep them from slitting your throat with a small amount of gold.

A few payrolls and treasure ships and you are laughing.

Now, I actually think the crew gets angry very slowly, at least compared to Pirates! Gold. You can easily sail a couple of years without having to divide the plunder. Considering refitting takes half a year that´s not too bad, but in my opinion, it´s the refitting time that needs to be reduced, to, say, two or three months, perhaps, so you can divide the plunder after one year or eighteen months at maximum.

I also like your new sig, by the way, but then, I can't think of a sig that you've made that I didn't like. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I agree the "unhappy crew" aspect of the game can be annoying at times, but I think it may start to grow on you more Artaxerxes, when you consider what the game would be like without it. Where's the challenge if you have a crew that is 100% behind you? However, I have found that the crew can be unhappy for a long time before they start to actually become mutinous, and even then you've got some time before there are any real consequences to deal with. It strikes me as being in character for pirates to have their morale go up, even after an unsuccessful raid with a lot of casualties, when their percentage of the loot has just gotten bigger.

Well, with all due respect, Corruptor of Words, but on this I disagree. In my opinion, it´s much too easy to keep the moral up by getting your troops slaughtered, because you cannot really lose a land battle. If your troops get defeated, they flee - which is a fine feature. But since you can keep your ships, no matter how many or few crewmembers you have, you never get captured after losing a land battle.

And that´s not the only thing. I think causalities suffered should play a more important role in determining the crew moral as well as in determining how many crewmembers want to join you. Pirates, after all, don´t want to die as heroes, but live to enjoy their plunder.

I like change'n up every now an then, get bored wid de same one all the time

And yep Grimm I'd be think'n ye got good point on de morale issue, and fer yer crew fleeing if ye lose a battle, well ye run te fight another day be OK by me,better te be alive pirate than a dead one <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I think you're right though, after a few unsucessful raids with beaucoup casualties, the pirates would start to catch on that the Captain was trying to adjust the percentages for the final payout and start trying to find a new captain. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />
