From a few days of playing Things I've noticed. I have the DVD verion.
The Good
Great game play. It's is one of those games where you go. Hey what happened to those 8 hours?
Historical perks are really nice. Tradewinds accuracy gives a good feel as well.
Map and historical detail of area. Wonderful!
You really feel like a captian in that era.
The sea battles are pretty nifty until you find out some of...
The Bad:
Manual is innaccuate in many places, leaves out details, and has quite a few errors as well. One example:
In Sneaking Around Town Pg 64 Moving Around See the 'Game Controls' scetion for complete instructions on moving around town. (no page number given)
Ok look up game controls in the table of contents, Pg 134.
Not a thing on moving around town on 134 or 135.
Check the readme. Nope nothing there either.
Battles on even the most challenging level are painfully easy. The sword play really i the entire game. A fast sloop and a decent crew and you can take anyone. because...
Sword battles are painfully easy. I have yet to lose one on even the higest difficulty level. I take a fast ship board large frigates and trasure galleons with 40 crew vs their 200+ by the time I'm down to 30 men I've beaten their captian and won the battle.
The eh.
Graphics. Very Retro. I like them but I know people who will not be as keen on them. I personally think they rock and give a good feel to an old game.
Treasure hunting and dancing have problems. Dancing for example when the camrea view is spinning if you end up in the 90 degree cone behind the woman, your commands are reversed if she inidicated right, it's stage right.
Dancing is also much much too difficult to the point of almsot broken even on adventurer or higher. Trasure hunting three times now I've had treasure maps with only a small square of land showing, and the X is over the water. Both are optional features, but their not working properly take from the flavor of the game.
Cutscenes have zero variety, not a bad thing, but you can't turn them off. You'll come to love the ones you can click and end early.
Many perks, such as Pistols and Brace of pistols.and so on, do not really have an effect in the game other then perhaps additonal animation (and often not even that).
