THE GREAT WHALE ROAD – A Video Game By Sunburned Games Comes To Kickstarter: November 17
Valencia, Spain, 05/11/2015: Sunburned Games S.A. announced today that its debut title THE GREAT WHALE ROAD will come to Kickstarter on November 17. The Great Whale Road is set in the Dark Ages and will allow players to travel the early medieval North Sea with their crew of chosen warriors. The game combines role-playing elements with trade and exploration. It also merges turn-based tactics and cards to create innovative experiences in single and multiplayer gaming.
THE GREAT WHALE ROAD boasts real-time exploration, trading and ship management combined with turn-based tactical combat. Combat also features cards which allow the player to use cultural and class-based abilities during turns. Details include:
§ Players select a hero and crew for their ship from eight historical culture groups including Danes, Picts, Franks, Britons and Anglo-Saxons.
§ Unique heroes and quests for each culture.
§ Exploration of the North Sea during the Dark Ages with historical trading routes and settlements.
§ Different ship types from Celtic skin boats to early longships.
§ Players can raid or trade to supply their village for the coming winter.
§ Players build decks and use them in turn-based battles.
§ Single-player adventures and two-player combat.
THE GREAT WHALE ROAD will be available on Windows, Mac and Linux. Early Access is targeted for May 2016. Additional platforms will be announced next year.

About Sunburned Games
THE GREAT WHALE ROAD is being developed by Sunburned Games S.A. based in Valencia, Spain. This new game development studio was founded by husband-and-wife team Birgit and Joachim Sammer, at the end of 2014. To date the company is fully self-funded by the founders, and Kickstarter offers a global platform for the studio to raise additional funds to accelerate development, expand the feature set, and to increase the visibility of the project.
“We strongly believe that Valencia is the right location for Sunburned Games. There is a lot of unutilized talent which will allow us to grow organically for years to come.” said Joachim Sammer, CEO of Sunburned Games. “We prefer to do build a business in Europe, in a city we really like rather than going off-shore. I just hope politicians will realize that companies compete on a global scale nowadays, and that they create an environment where start-ups can flourish.”
In the short period since its inception, Sunburned Games S.A. has already created five video game development jobs locally in Valencia, as well as two internships for students at Valencian universities. The objective of Sunburned Games S.A. is to create video games with historical settings and job opportunities for graduates and young professionals in Spain. The company is also working with experienced video game industry veterans internationally and locally to ensure the quality of its games as well as to provide leadership to its team.
