The subject matter being so diverse and fascinating and then trying to fit it into a limerick rhyme scheme, while trying to be ,mostly , historically accurate has gotten a bit addictive for me, but the wind will slacken eventually. I came up with a limerick for Israel Hands;

Shipped with Blackbeard did Israel Hands,
A Lieutenant of Teach's dread bands,
But his loyalty t'was forgotten,
When an angry Blackbeard shot him,
When things didn't quite work to plans.

But, I'm thinking it would fit into the Three Decker limerick for Blackbeard;

<b>Blackbeard's Guide to Crew Motivation </b>

Blackbeard kept a lit fuse in his beard,
And a devil to all he appeared,
Or a Sea Monster fell,
For this "Machiavel",
Wanted less to be loved than be feared.

Edward Teach was a monster, indeed.
A diet of villany, he seemed to much need.
His crew, they did fear him;
For their chances were too slim.
He might trade their cursed lives for some mead.

Shipped with Blackbeard did Israel Hands,
A Lieutenant of Teach's dread bands,
But his loyalty t'was forgotten,
When an angry Blackbeard shot him,
When things didn't quite work to plans.

Fear Blackbeard, no more for he's dead,
And his corpse was all riddled with lead,
T'was at quaint Ockracoke
That he happened to croak
After Maynard made off with his head.

Of course, I still need permission from Mad Jack to use his verse and make this a collaborative effort, but what do you think, should the Israel Hands limerick stand on its own? I'm strongly tempted to use it in the BLackbeard one, because Hands wasn't killed when Blackbeard shot him and I believe his ultimate fate is unkown. Let me know...

Okay, Sir Christopher, William gave the `go-ahead` for a piratey limerick feature in the articles section - collect the epitaphs and whatever pics you think are appropriate, and tack on whatever other little limericks or poems you wish to add from this topic, and he'll put 'em up... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

For the "other" part (not epitaphs of famous pirates), it doesn't have to be limericks, but all chosen should be piratey - emphasis placed upon verses about members of this forum in particular.

I'm thinking the Pirate Graveyard should only have the limericks about the actual historical pirates, I don't think any of us are quite ready for the graveyard yet. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Maybe someday we could post on the main site the limericks that we've created about PA members, but I like having them in this thread too, and adding one whenever I'm struck with a notion. (Right now I'm thinking of penning one to celebrate Skull's return. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> )

For the Pirate's Graveyard, I have an idea to come up with a graphic of a headstone that I can put the limerick on as an epitaph. I'll see what I can come up with.

I've got good leads - it will equate to added responsibility, and added pay.
