Just so everyone knows, I've been posting over on the playlogic forums as well recently. The next patch for AOP english versions will include the unlocked .ini files. No word yet on whether they will be english localized or not though.

Also mentioned we could use some modelling tools that would allow us to make new content like ships and islands, turns out some of the folks at Playlogic actually agree with me, and a release of such tools is a possibility, but not a certainty. To find out whats been said, have a look here --> <a href="http://www.playlogicgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1526" target="_blank">http://www.playlogicgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1526</a>

Okay fellow modding fools!! This is it, our chance to really let Playlogic know how much we think their game would rock if they open up the modding and provide us with info and tools to make it easier.

Go to that link above. Just kick in your doubloons worth, but keep it nice, civil and friendly like.

If playlogic sees just how much support the modding community really needs and likes, they may very well provide us with the tools we so desperately need and want.

Let 'em see how much we really do appreciate the game, bugs and all.

P.S. My fellow PotC modders, these tools could very well help you out as well. Lets do our best to show playlogic a united front and really see if they can live up to the potential!

So nobody over here is interested in getting some tools into the community that could help us all? Sad.

As a non-modder myself i cant really comment. As a non-owner of AoP i'm not that interested in the game, and here's why:

1. PotC already showed us what happens when you(the dev - Akella in this case) lose control of your property. bethesda were only ever interested in the deal they could keep with Disney.

2. AoP has gone down the same path, but much more so. Letting Atari get hold of the game was a huge mistake, almost a guarantee that it would get screwed up, and the reason is pretty much everyone knows Atari is facing huge finacial problems, there has been plenty of speculation for a long time on when this once venerable name would fold - soon is the accepted prediciton. That means they cant have their eye on the ball when it comes to releasing titles, while this uncertainty hangs over their very existance.

AoP has proven that, being released in its very unfinished, buggy and frankly unacceptable state. The latest Neverwinter Knights II will i suspect prove it also(although this may be the LAST chance Atari gets so they will put more effort into this).

3. I'm not prepared anymore to constantly fork out my hard earned money on broken games.

4. Starforce - games like Gal Civ have shown this draconian method of punishing your customer is unnecesary, if people are going to pirate your game they will. Still if your game is actualy any good and worthy of peoples money(as i suspect AoP would have been if finished) you will make your money through legitimate sales. If a games got Starforce i'm not going to buy it - if a game with each new patch constantly keeps giving me starforce junk i'm not going to want the patches. This is the nail in the coffin for my interest in AoP sadly.

Now i can appriciate that in an effort to keep us happy - they(Akella/playlogic/Atari) are going to give us tools to help mod the game, and its nice they will open up the program folder as in PotC. But well maybe its too little too late? As i'm unlikely to get AoP anytime soon i cant really say - but for the good folks that did get it, and have been trying their best to fix it, well i suspect many might feel like this?

And finaly i think the few active modders we have here in PotC are at the moment so busy and focused on trying to get build13 done, they may not have the time to get too distracted right now. Give it a few weeks and i suspect they may show more interest <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

These are just my particular opinions on the subject. While i'm happy someone has decided to let the modders try to fix their broken game, part of the 'jaded game player' in me is quite happy with PotC and what we can still do with this game(call me crazy!).

Anyway probably not the reply you wanted, but i think as someone trying their best to get people involved with fixing AoP, you deserve some feedback. Others may well feel entirely different to me and will champ at the bit to get those modding tools.

Edit:last line as it came out wrongly in the context of the paragraph <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I appreciate your insights. I am sure that there will be some interest generated, eventually. My main intent is to get a bit more activity on the thread over at playlogic. Basically from all I've seen of both games(and I've been poking around in the code for both games), they are exactly the same game, only difference is some new and updated .dll's, missing .ini files and updates to the .exe. Other than that, its the same game.

So, inferring from there, ANY tools made for AOP that don't modify .dll's or the .exe will be ultimately useful for modding PotC.

Just my view of it. I am most likely correct, but could be wrong here.

And i'm sure the modders here will be very interested in this, so i expect they will make an appearance to give their support or atleast to check out the proposals <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I'm in the same boat as Bart... if it has Starforce, I will not push my mouse a millimeter in its direction. Nor even spend half a penny towards it.

I'm dead set against "punishing customers" (good terminology), and as such I basically boycott any piece of software that has malware in it like starforce.

I understand your feeling about that. I'm not asking you guys to support AOP by buying it. I'm trying to get a united front of modders working together here. People interested in seeing tools made available that would benefit the entire community. Not just AOP side.

But then Cyberops is also working on his own set of modding tools as well. I just kind of figure that if Playlogic is willing to release some tools that might say making new models of ships, islands, towns and maps easier, it would really be something that could be used for both games.

I have and play both games myself. Haven't had a single problem with starfarce. Don't like the idea of it myself. But it's not the protection I'm interested in supporting anyway, its the guys that made the game originally. And if we get across to the publishers what a benefit it is to support the modders, then we will see even newer games with better capabilities right along these lines.

Anyhow, I don't seem to be making sense very well. Been up a long time and kind of loopy. Working crazy like on some new ships, cannons and stuff. I'll have updates on those toys for everyone before too long.

Tools make sense. I've used tools for modding in other games like Marathon series, Myth series, UT's etc. They certainly help.

PotC could benefit from a decent modeling tool that allows proper application of shading, light sources, and textures. No offense to CCC (he had to work with what he could!) but the current attemtps have been painful on the eyes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Some moddings tools would come in handy, yes. But at the moment I am too busy to register and start posting on yet another forum. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Well again, thats all I'm asking. Show Playlogic a united front. Show them there are folks out here VERY interested in the tools to really take these games to the next logical level.

I hope you guys do decide to jump in and say so. It would do us all a world of good.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Modders,
I'm no modder but please go for it!
You can offcourse install AOP without Starforce!
I've got it on my computer and there is no SF in sight!
All you have to do is, use Cyberobs Supermod 1.1
Having said that, PotC is a far better game!!
It has a story, which is missing in AOP and I feel you would be
great at it! Cheers to you all and great Beta 6!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

The problem is the patches now - each new patch will not work if you turn off starforce, and the crackers that have been providing sf removal are getting a bit fed up with this, especialy as each new patch has so far been very minor, and AoP looks like its going to need at least a dozen to be as it should have been on release? Even Cyberops himself has said as much.

Still even though i'm unlikely to get AoP, i am interested in any 'official' modding tools that may be of use in PotC? So from my point of view Cap'n Drow, if you want please feel free to mention a bunch of us over here are very interested in this prospect.

Hehe, "attempts" is a very fitting description <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Though MY eyes are not as sensible, I don't care that much for looks if the gameplay is allright, but I can imagine that many people expect professional graphics nowadays.

So more tools -AND people who use them- would certainly be great <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Considering the new faces we've been seeing here that seem to be coming over from Playlogics's site, I'd say that its also a great opportunity to plug our community to other players. **grins slyly**
