Tracking down Famous Pirates...

Framnk

Landlubber
Well I tracked down all the famous Pirates early in my career and I feel like I gipped myself. Should I have waited until the end of my career so that these famous guys would have accumulated more loot? Or doesn't the game work that way...

Also, one thing I miss from the original Pirates was when you captured or imprisoned someone famous they would sometimes break out of prison and you'd go track them down again. Would be nice if some of these famous pirates would restart their careers or new ones would crop up.

I guess I'm struggling with the whole "dynamic world" concept when you consider the limitations they've imposed (kill 10/10 pirates (done), find 10/10 treasure maps (done)) I really think Sid missed his goal of pulling me "into the game" like he says other games fail to do these days.

(sigh) Maybe I'm just growing up and Pirates! will never be the same as it once was.

Hmmm i wondered that i captured Blackbeard took his ship e.t.c and then he comes back with the same stuff straight after!

Framnk, I have a map with a destination you must head to:

"Second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning". <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

It's better if you get these guys early, when you're older and your health starts to fail, you'll have trouble getting past them! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I think famous pirates gain more plunder as time goes on. After a year or so after receiving orders to defeat Henry Morgan, I gained 29,000 gold pieces from his ship alone. In another game, I defeated him only two weeks after receiving orders. He only had about 9600 gold on his ship.

Ha, good thought, <b>IronBrig4! </b> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Typing of the top 10... Have you encountered one in his haven and spoke to him? LOL I sailed into the Pirate haven, Tom's Rest, home of Jean Lafitte, the # 5 ranked pirate. I had just dug up his buried treasure.

There he sat at his desk surrounded by gold and jewels, he looks up at me and says;

"You'll soon regret stealing my buried treasure. Now go away you little pile of dog poop or I'll give you a black spot."... Referring to the pistol on the desk in front of him.

I continue standing there without leaving, he sighs, runs his fingers through his moustache and grabs a knife on his desk. Twirls it around and stabs it into the desk saying, well you do not know, but you do, its "begone", just in firaxian.

I just saw this for the first time now, thought it was funny. Now I need to try and corner other pirates in their haven, see if they all do/say they same thing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Don't put the man down yet <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> My guy is `48-50` and he can still move. I think what helps a great deal is the items such as the swords and armor, the guns seem kind of useless to me. Im currently hunting pirate #4 <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

I also wonder what the gun is good for. Perhaps it weakens your enemy attack speed a little "/

The gun starts you a few thrust movements farther than you would normally be, meaning you don't have to hit the enemy captain as many times.

Framk - I think for us old players, this game had alot to live up to. I think it did a pretty good job personally, though there are things I would change if I could. I'm quite happy with the game. I hope you get enthused with it some more at some point though.

possible <span style='color:red'>SPOILER</span>

read a tidbit in the strat guide that i'd like to pass along. says the amount of buried treasure for each famous pirate depends on his ranking. #1 has $10K buried and numero 10 has $2k. pirates move down the top 10 list as you defeat them and their buried treasure amount decreases accordingly. so, they recommend you find his treasure first!, then defeat him.
