heya guys; just a quick little topic which im sure has been covered countless times before anyway; Im drawing a storyboard for a vid im gonna make based on alpha 9/10 (I finally discovered how to use the 'free camera' the other day so now the worlds my limit! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ') and was just wondering if we have any kind of contingency in place for advertising. For example, i think it would be nice to upload to utoob or something as advertising for the game, but i dont know what bethesda or whoever would think of that as its that magic little © thing again, isnt it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> But would I be able to post it on this site? Provided, of course, that it is of a good enough standard. I have an example vid iim making for DTW if anyone wants an example; otherwise, I might as well change the narrative so it doesn't relate directly to the game as a trailer/teaser, but more to a theme which 'just happens' to use the game as a visuals creator. I can post up a storyboard if so desired. I realise there will be loads of people/modders who will want to be doing this exact same thing cos to show off their little masterpiece <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ; its a very desirable job, as i can tell by the amount of them on utoob already! Dut I thougght id just ask so i know what form to make it in, as I made one unrelated before and then it turned out that it needed to be an ad so it didnt turn out too well <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> . I use final cut pro (sometimes) and Edit studio 2 so any suggestions are good suggestions <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I would LOVE a Pirates of the Caribbean: New Horizons trailer!
Thomas the Terror made the PiratesAhoy! logo movie with the intention that it might be used in a mod trailer at some point too.
We can then also add the trailer to our <a href="http://www.moddb.com/mods/new-horizons/videos" target="_blank">ModDB video's page</a>! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Could you post a few scenes you're planning on adding? Because I know a couple that would also be nice to add.
For example some of the iconic Jack Sparrow quest ones, as well as some Hornblower stuff, especially the big land battle at the end of the quest.
And if you are going to make a trailer, it'd look even better if you use the experimental mods; then you get nicer flags. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Yeah, we have a piratesahoy! channel, but Keith is it's owner so noone can post there :p. And if you need the piratesahoy! movie, just send me a pm. It is already on youtube, but the higher resolution version is only located on my pc.
 
For music, I've got LOTS of appropriate piratey music, which you can find on the PotC Files FTP in the Pieter Pirate Music folder.

You'll just have a bit of trouble going through all the music, because there is a LOT of it.
You could start with <i>Erich Kunzel, Masters and Commanders</i>; that's a good assortment of seafaring film music.
 
Right, ok; ive downloaded the Black Swan down to Master and commander but its downloading so slow thats all at the mo. Ill give them a try. Your right; there are loads!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I'm rather a fan of pirate/seafaring film music, so for the past many years,
I've been trying to lay my greedy little hands on everything I could find.
Some of that music is actually really hard-to-find too.
But most I got off the internet and not off CDs, because it <i>is</i> so hard to find.

Aye I hear ya; Im a bit of horder when it comes to john Williams to be honest; I just love all his stuff; specially the star wars and JP music. Ive got a bit of Hans Z as well. Its good listening ! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I dunno if its really your thing, but Brad Fiedel has some realyl decent strings and electric themes, i.e, Terminator 2. Its nice stuff <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Should I put some of the storyboard/ideas on the FTP so its there for everyone to see or insert their ideas, or shall I simply post it on here? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I personally prefer orchestral music, with John Williams being my absolute favourite composer.
But then there's also John Debney (Cutthroat Island!) and Jerry Goldsmith and Alan Silvestri and many others.
I'm not so big on Hans Zimmer; some of his music I like, most of it I think inappropriate ("The Kraken"; UGH! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> ).

Anyway, if you can, please post here a list of things you intend to show off in the trailer.
Then other people can pitch in a suggest some additional scenes to add.
I think it'd be nice to show some cool scenes from each of the main quests,
as well as some of the new locations and character/ship models and such.
 
It would be good to have a trailer on YouTube and maybe even ModDB.
This will give people who are not sure about the size of the download a reason to see what we have done and to see that it IS worth it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I know when I started I was slightly on the side of not downloading cause of the size.
I went on the forum as a "guest" for a while and found out it was worth it and signed up as soon as I downloaded the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Well, Ive got on and mixed a few possibles; not necessaily because i intend to mix them for the final but i think it would be good if the music has a few original qualities; elsewise people would just watch the trailer and think 'oh i liked this film' and not concentrate on the build; its surprising how much people notice the music.

I: this one includes three tracks from the M&C Sound track; the deep strings of the full circle track, the white harmony line of the Phasmid, and the classic Cuckold cam out of the amery. This one gives an ironic tone; thus possibly a more historical/humble way of conveying the game i.e, silent battles, thought-provoking cut-text and a concentration of of life on board and on land; showing many features of the game. I used audacity for this so its also easy to edit if anyone would want to.

II: unfortunutly, i do not have enough attachment space to upload the other two, but this one I did and it could probably deal with an overall more militaristic approach; possibly a positive view of 1600s cariibean life, then after the amery stops, blended with the wars and piracy and before long a detailed showing of battles and character dealings/quests. As I say, this is only a rough edit but its a start <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I used Dance 6 for this one.

POTC Comp: This one I think may be the most appropriate. I made it years ago with the intention of creating a live-action spoof trailer of POTC for college. the idea ended up down the pan but I think that this mix includes all the emotions needed. It included three of the POTC DMC tracks, organised in the classic teaser fashion. It would be perfect for showing off the quests, as well as battles, characters, land combat and even 'town life'. Again, i wish i could upload all these but im not sure how to upload more as I only have 3.37meg left; but nevermind. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

These are just ideas; afterall, i still have hundreds to sample (courtesy Pieter <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) so theres probably far better ones just waiting to be discovered. I know ive probably wrecked some perfectly good music here but i just wanted to experiment and see if i could give the build its own 'theme'. I would make something from scratch but Trance isnt exactly perfect for a trailer about 17th century caribbean Naval warfare, is it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />


So i think it depends on what the music can give us; but everyone's welcome to interject ideasif they wish and I can then mould the music around this. I admit i dont have the fastest computer but i have ways of making my FR look fast, and of course I'll use the 'Free Camera' view so complicated shots shouldnt be much of a problem, as lord knows i get confused! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

You can put your files on the FTP; plenty of space there*.
I had been thinking that <i>René Merkelbach, De Vliegende Hollander</i> would make for some good trailer music.
People would be bound not to be familiar with that one, considering it's written for an attraction in a Dutch theme park.

* For whatever maddened reason, I can't log into either the Files and the Build FTP at the moment!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

BTW: As a Modder you should be having 50 MB of attachment space.
If you already filled all that up, you can remove some older attachments.

I've got to admit that personally I'm not too fond of the M&C music, though it certainly works well in the film.
My favourite track is the first one, "The Far Side of the World", especially the part that starts at 0:30 and again at 3:45.

Here's some random thoughts on music you could use:

- Bronislau Kaper, Mutiny on the Bounty - Track 02: "Main Title/Portsmouth Harbor" - the second half has some nice "port" music
The first three tracks are all worth a listen; main theme's very appropriate for a serious navy feel.

- Erich Kunzel, Masters and Commanders - Track 03-05 from Pirates of the Caribbean
The music is fairly well-known, but these versions sound somewhat different from the regular ones.

- John Debney, Cutthroat Island - Pretty much all tracks, but especially the finale of track 33: "It's Only Gold/End Credits"
Best piratey finale ever and lots of wonderful sailing music and action music too.

Personally I think it could be really interesting to merge music from various movies into one trailer track.
 
Some other tricks that have helped me with making screenshots and would also apply to videos:
- Use F9 to hide the on-screen interface so it won't show in the video
- Use sidestep to put yourself in a place where random characters cannot talk to you
Otherwise you might spend a lot of effort finding a nice angle in free camera mode,
only to be talked to and the camera returning to your character again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
