Trouble with maps and North/South ?

A lot of people complain about maps and
north/south direction. I got this map,
luckily with an x but no seamark.
It should be south of Campeche. So if
you look on the main map you'll see the
compass north is not straight up but a
little rotated. So I aligned a ruler
to that north and translated it parallel
till it hits Campeche. Following the ruler
south, it cuts the eastern shoreline right
in the knee of the Bay of Honduras. Now the
map itself seems to be cut somehow (arrow).
Maybe there is a seamark cut ?
Landing south of a seamark in that area,
walk west a bit and found the lost city.

Second thing I want to point, is the
behavoir of the compass on land. Nothing
wrong with it, it acts like a real compass
needle. If you look on one, pointing north
on the scale, an now you turn yourself to
the right (east), the needle will point to
your left and if you don't turn the scale
the needle will show east. It just needs
getting used to - like dancing <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

That north south on treasure maps is right
up down and so I think the landmarks are set
quite right but there are a lot of additional
ones to drive you mad.

In the picture ? I figured out its more comfortable than a ruler on the paper map. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

The compass roses on the main map are correct in the real world, but it seems to me in the game north is straight "up". I tested it once. I was at a port on the Spanish Main and wanted to hit some town in Cuba or somesuch. The compass rose on the main map showed it as due north, so I sailed "up" in the game, and ended up far to the west of my intended destination.

As far as the compass on the treasure map, when you're on land, you should see your compass rose in the corner. The compass stays pointed north, the red arrow points the direction the wind is blowing. The compass is there automatically. Nothing you have to do to get it to show up.
