What do you not understand, Vassal?

The retexturing tutorial pretty much covers it. You find the skin you want to change, then convert it to .dds so you can read it in Photoshop (you need the plugin so you can read .dds file formats in PS). Then you edit where you wish, and when you are done, save it in .dds format, then `re-pack` it to .tx file format and load it up into the game.

I suggest you save a copy of the original skin so you can go back to it if there are problems or you don't like what you did and want to change it.

I hope this helps... I am not sure what you don't understand.

to change a side ... to eg. a worn wodden one ...
mark a selection copy to another layer or new file ....
make it with transparant background .....
erase everythings not wanted ....
then add the skin (from another file)
or use filters ...(just play with 'em to you find what u wanna use)
make a selection and copy it....
go back to org file, add a layer, paste it in ... place it....
be sure u set it correct.
merge all alyers ......
save file
converte it again and test it .........
if u can not converte it .... then u changed the format used in tga file
and then u start all over again

hope it helps

Whew... Some people spend thousands of dollars to learn to use Photoshop, and you want it in a small tutorial?!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

It's difficult to tell you what to do, Vassal. JSJ gave you some shortcuts, and I gave you a path... It's best if you read the "help" files that came with the program, they should give you a clue as to what to do.

Here are some more suggestions -

1.) If you are working on a ship, some things you can do are selecting the hull by using the "lasso" tool. Once you've selected the area you wish to alter, then go into IMAGE/ADJUSTMENTS/Hue and Saturation. Play with the colors - see what you can make.

2.) If you wish to color over or paint over a certain area and make it look like the area around it, use the "rubber stamp" tool. You can make the area you copy large or small - and you can then "stamp" that area and the surrounding area with that part of the texture.

3.) Adding textures is as simple as looking in the FILTERS/TEXTURIZER menu... You can texturize any image with these filters.

4.) There are other filters you may have noticed in the filters menu - play around with those - you can do some very interesting things with these filters - and if you want to find more, there are many free filters out there on the web for Photoshop. Just do a google search and you'll find them.

HTH! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> Color of uniform change, Rico. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Vassal, the original color of that uniform as it was released was tan with red showing in the sleeves. Pretty boring. The blue is nice, and I suppose more historically correct.

Are you making your own skin for your main character? You can do a lot with that model - I found elements from other models to make my "Armand" for my Fred Bob quest - Armand wears the skin of the officer from the French military - and instead of the frilly lace at the cuffs, I have him wearing black gauntlets. I also "took the sleeves off" of the uniform - you can make the sleeves white by borrowing white sleeves from another model.

Here check it out:

The first is my change, the second is the original model skin.

Yeah i know that Cat <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> and ive been working now for my musketeer skin <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> ,well Cat where can you find the .ani file of the characters?

<!--`QuoteBegin-Rico`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rico)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Looks fabulous, Catalina! Can you get him as officer? That'd be nice... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />[/quote]Armand is not a character who stays with the game, he escapes with Estrella at the end of the quest.
