i havent played potc in a while and all i had on mine was the build mod 13 without any updates..i put Build 14 Alpha 6 update on it from pieters page and it works fine except i cant buy pirate ships and before i had it so i could buy every ship avaliable in the game at a shipyard and now thats not working anymore....any ideas on how to fix it or what the deal is?

look in "build settings.h" for a start - initial settings are there: under SHIP MANAGEMENT, REPAIRS, TRADING:

well i been messing around with those files and so far i havent made a change that works, i got it back to where i can buy every ship i just cant buy any pirate ships......for now im just going to make the pirate ships i want able to be seen at sea and hope i see one and capture it until i can find out how to edit the files so i can buy them again

he just told you. what he forgot to say is that you need to start anew game for the changes to take effect. although pressing F11 might work as well.

That's deliberate. You have to be a pirate to be able to buy pirate ships (done by talking with the QC pirate leader when you have enough fame). And you need to have a Letter of Marquee and the required navy rank to be able to buy navy ships. This mod is turned off with the REALISTIC_SHIP_PURCHASE setting in BuildSettings.h.
