Useless things?

What kind of swords do you collect, Cat? All different kinds of just one specific type?

I have a variety of different types myself. I don't go for those flashy ones you can get from collector's mags though. I prefer actual swords. I have a wider variety of katanas and longswords more than anything though.

And I assume GIJoe has katanas since he got them while in Japan. Do you have full sets or just single swords?
 
I have 3 racks, of 3 swords each. Not sure what you mean by "full sets". I also have 2 scimitars I got while in Saudi Arabia. At least thats what I call them.
 
What I meant by "full sets" was katana/wakazashi/tanto which are usually what is found on the triple racks. Sorry 'bout that.

The tagging along is just a coincidence and may stem from you having friendly relations with the country. Just like when you are given escort missions, they stay close to you so you can protect them. Just to make it clear, as was mentioned in an earlier post, the mirror and flare help you get rescued from being marooned quicker.

So I have a nice CAS Iberia fencing rapier, a boarding cutlass, and a couple of daggers (one for each boot) and a little sneaky one hidden somewhere no one would guess, LOL! I also have a REAL sabre from the US/Mexican war era (+/-1850) - only a guess, could not find a lot of info on the maker, other than the approximate era. I don't wear the sabre with my Faire garb, tho. It's more of a mantlepiece object...

I had a nice stage longsword, but sold it (for a nice profit!) when I needed the dough to get my fencing rapier (which I LOVE!). I used to fence when I was in school, so I got it with an eye towards perhaps doing some performance combat one day... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I used to sell Asian antiquities, and occasionally would come across some nice blades - but alas, never was able to purchase any for myself. SOMETIMES you can find some nice real historic blades on eBay. I troll those listings from time to time, and collect PICTURES of them now. Nothing wrong with being a Rennie. I was one myself back in the early 90's when I lived in Kansas City. Used to belong to a swordfighting club too, but it was longswords and broadswords only. Well, the funny thing is, I'm not really a serious collector although people would argue that if they saw my collection. It's just I don't go out of my way to get swords. I also collect alot of pictures of swords and there are some that I might go out of my way to find someday, but for now I'm content with what I have. Figure I've got most known sword types covered with my collection. It's funny how you can find many different varieties of one sword type out there. I've seen so many variations of the cutlass in my life that I lost count.

But, it all boils down to the fact that I'm a katana man. I love the sword. It's an efficient design and, if masterfully crafted, can withstand alot of abuse that other swords just simply cannot take.
 
I think that repairs to your ships are made only when a new month starts. You can notice your sails get patched up when the 1st of the month occurs. I believe they fix about `10-15`% each time.
 
I have something too. Why is it when you parry it sends you backwards a half step, but when you riposte, you barely compensate for the parry? I sabre and if you're quick enough to parry a good opponent and make a successful riposte as well, you ought to be patting yourself on the back sometimes.
 
I only just worked out that the spyglass is useful when you are looking for de Incan Treasures and family members.

First time I used it I figured it just did a magnification of what could already be seen, yarrrggh.

Finally tried it again when the gents were having trouble locatin' the Incas and it helped out no end. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Carpenter and the sailmaker do they job at the change of the month only (prolly some kind of union rules).

I imagine that the mirror and the flare help you if you get stranded on an island (lose a battle) and have to signal passing ships to pick you up. I've never been stranded, though, so I don't know if the items cut down the months that you have to spend on the island...
