Where am I?

Landlubber
When I am treasure hunting on land, am I not supposed to see where I am on the regular map? My ship is marked, but my current position with my crewmates is not marked. I have no idea how far inland I have travelled by foot. No point of reference. I feel like I am going in circles looking at trees.

Nope, your land party location does not show on the map. That's what makes looking for that read X a challenge sometimes.

It seems it would be challenge enough just for the treasure not to be marked with an 'X' on the treasure map. But the regular map should at least show my location for reference. It hasn't been fun going in circles, only to find out you reached the boundary of the map and when all your crew are starving.

It takes some time to get used to walking around with the spyglass zoomed in, but if you do it, and pay close attention to landmarks and your compass, it becomes a LOT easier. One tip is to keep the spyglass zoom circle down low on the screen, and panning side to side repeatedly,so you can look under all the trees and such around you. Experiment a little bit with the different view you get by raising or lowering the zoom window and youll find im right <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
Also, a lot of cross referencing with your maps helps <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> , especially when trying to walk from <edited so as not to spoil> southeast lol, there are TONS of landmarks and they are easily confused! (which is how i walked past one lost city on the way to montalban's fortress, not even realizing what it was for about 3 hours!) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Good luck!

Possible Spoiler! :p

Just save Time and stop wandering around for ages with the spyglass and the minimap. Took me forever to find this Inca City in the North of a beautiful Spanish City :p

Look for the tiny `Skull-Rocks` at the Coastline. They are an Indicator for your `Treasure-Map`. For Example, the `Inca-City` Map wasnt in the near of any Coastline, so comparing it with the Worldmap was rather difficult. After walking and spyglassing the Northern Surroundings of "again this wonderful Spanish City" forever i send my Men back to the Ship and sailed up the Coastline. I stopped by at every `Skull-Rock` and walked a short Distance into the Jungle.

Et Voilá, at the Second Rock i found it. Now its just a piece of cake to find something "in the North of..." or "in the South of.."
