The first one was a EL1306g? I think .When I went to exchange they were out of those and I got an EL1200-07w . Looks like exactly the same computer as far as hardware just the tower case looks different. My freind that works at a local computer store said that since it wouldn't do a system restore (got an error message )then it was probably a faulty hardrive or memory. Anyway this one seems to work ok so far ,fingers crossed ,and knock on woodI am currently working on an ancient eMachine for my cousin, 500 Mhz Intell Celeron! He only had like 32 meg of ram and Windows 98 :? I installed an old PC133 256 Meg module I had laying around, and I am currently putting XP on it for him.

Sounds like your first one might have had a flaky Ethernet port will, sometimes that happens on those cheap motherboards. Those systems also tend to have cheap power supply's in them as well, just enough to boot the thing, but nothing left over for adding new hard drives or DVD drives. You can replace those fairly easily though if you need more power for something. Just out of curiosity, what's the model number on the one you picked up?
