    Were are Sigma's Ships???

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I think it would be better if we _asked_ Sigma before jumping to any conclusions at all.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> That would indeed be a good idea. Apologies to you KaiserWilhelm, if I don't respond...

    Surprise!!!!!

You can take what you like as an insult. None was intended. Perhaps if you reread my post, you'll get a better sense of the tone of it. I'm very familiar with those models (I have a number of them) and I'm merely reporting what I see. On the contrary, there's no 'insult' or 'accusation'...

    Surprise!!!!!

Surprise had a `gaff-rigged` mizzen and full stern galleries, and her jib boom and bowsprit were much longer. Aside from that, and the fact that she seems to be built from a number of components (masts, headrails, etc) from <b>DeEspona's Le Superbe</b>, you've done a good job with the general...

British Royal nave colours and other things...

    I was on vacation too for 2 months. . . <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> We're all guilty of something. . . (in my case, it's dereliction of duty <img...

British Royal nave colours and other things...

number of 'guns' in this period refers only to the number of guns carried, not including carronades, and not including anything additional that the captain might have added. My model is made form the Admiralty drawings made immediately after her capture from the French by the UK (when she was...

British Royal nave colours and other things...

hmm. . . seems Inez's tool is optimized for characters. . . I can convert ships back and forth, but so far not with their locators intact. . . (I have a Barque on my HD with locators for a human. . . wonder what that would look like ingame. . . <img...

British Royal nave colours and other things...

Theoretically, couldn't I use that tool to import ships if it retained the locators from ships of the same type? (Then I could move the locators to where they should be and convert to gm?)

British Royal nave colours and other things...

<img src="http://www.steelchick.com/other/28frigate1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> I've done HMS Surprise (that's from the original plans). I've also done a whole bunch of others. They're even in Maya and ready to import (minus locators, obviously).

    Acheron

The Acheron in M&C was based exactly on digital scans of USS Constitution. In that respect, she differs from USS Constitution in two ways: 1. decoration and painting 2. 18 pounder guns on her maindeck instead of Constitution's 24 pounders. So since there's very little on the web about...

    HMS Victoey

<img src="http://www.nelsonsnavy.co.uk/gun32.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> Here's a 32 pounder on victory's lower gundeck. Obviously, (as I'm sure most people here know) they're named for the weight of the iron ball they fired.

    HMS Victoey

Just because they recoil violently doesn't mean that they're not reliable. All bronze guns did that. It's generally a question of preference. In this case, I'd tend to agree with Keppel however. There's a very good account of her armament in 'HMS Victory, Anatomy of the Ship,' which reference I...

    HMS Victoey

They didn't have more penetration power, actually. And they were 'reliable', per se. They were just heavier and harder to work for no significant increase in performance. Victory only had 42 pounders at one point in her career.

    English Corvette

I fear you've got me wrong, I'm not criticising your work(It's excellent), I'm just providing historical background. (What exactly is wrong with details?) If my information is not welcome however, I won't post here.

    English Corvette

Quite. There's no such thing as a British 'Corvette'. 'Corvette' was at that time the french name for a small frigate. The British would have called this a 'sixth rate Frigate'. Except that the 'corvette' in POTC isn't even a corvette by French standards. . . IIRC, it has 36 guns, making it a...

    Ships in progress...?

Nah, I meant, in real life. Everybody actually did build ships pretty much the same way (with a few exceptions). Up until Nelson at Trafalgar, even British ships were painted as their captains wanted to paint them, and that was by no means unique to them. Everybody did up their ships however...

    Ships in progress...?

Ah, but you see, there's really no fundamental difference between each nation's ships. (except that the french are faster, and the Dutch are `flat-bottomed` dishes). They all really do look pretty much the same, all things considered.

    SMALL GUN'S

    Err. . . topic returned to "SMALL GUN'S", you mean. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

    SMALL GUN'S

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Funny you complain about "SMALL GUN'S" being posessive, one thing that always bothers me is when people confuse, "Their, there, and they're"<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> What amazes me is that I know a...

    SMALL GUN'S

In the 16th century the "Great Guns" were classified according to size with such names as "cannon royal," "`demi-cannon`," "culverin," "`demi-culverin`," "falcon," "falconer," "minion," &c., but by the 18th century they were classified by the weight of the round shot that they fired. Thus the...
