Now, i have never served upon a vessel. But when i have crossed paths with a sailor, they always told me the difference between a good journey and a bad one was....

THE COOK!!!

But you must be asking "What good could a cook be in COAS?"
How about making the food (and or rum) last longer? How about improving moral?

What happens if you run out of food at sea? The Cook can also double as a fisherman cook fish caught at sea. We see sharks all the time, why not eat one? Of course, it wouldnt be a guarantee that he would catch anything. These things would all be based upon the Cook's skill.

Perhaps the Cook could be a companion and captain of a Tartane and that would allow him to fish and cook.


Again, probably easier said than done...but who knows?
 
It might be possible to add a new officer type, I've never really looked into the matter.
 
I wonder which would be harder to do, adding the new officer type, or the new skills that would make the food last longer, and moral to go up etc.
 
Both are actually not really that hard to achieve, both have been done in PotC Build Mod at some point (several new officers and having half/normal/double portions)

Oh man, you said much better than i did. I really hope that with the added interest we could see this officer type added.
 
Well if I'm getting all this right, there would be new perks as well, and the ability to be your own ship's cook, right?

If so, I recently made a new perk for myself (didn't release it since it only involved reloading cannons).
I know how to do that but it's very VERY complicated (the perks I mean). From all the coding I've been looking at, I think the perks are the ones that piss me off the most.
They use a dozen files, all in different folders (couple folders in /RESOURCE and a couple of folders in /Program)..
I could make 2-3 perks but it would take at least a day or so to finish it all.

Well we'll need to go over the attributes.. the Ship attributes? Or perhaps we can simply put the cooking associated with "Leadership", a player attribute.
That way, we don't have to mess up some pretty important files.

I could get some pictures for the perks and all that.. plus we can use some of the coding in the "Change rum rations".. we could convert that and make another one, change food rations.
It can be based on the cook's basic Leadership skill..

Well I'm all for it, I'll look into the perks and whatnot.

Question:
What files are related to the officer-appointment screen, under "Ship" menu, after you press F2?
I guess interface files?
