Any updates for 14 Alpha in progress?
I realy would like to take part in testing,
however I'm handycapped by a Black Screen
when clicking 'Start New Game' and have not
been able to pinpoint the culprit! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

I have been away since the release of the first Alpha, so there's nothing I've been able to do so far. I'll get onto making an update. Thanfully Jonathan Aldridge has been working very hard on making fixes for the buggy version I had released.

I don't know why you get a black screen at game start. Can you enable error logging and show error.log, compile.log and system.log? Perhaps we can figure out why it happens?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> I've done that, Pieter, No Error.log etc. It seems like a normal game,
I can access all the menues, but there is no picture. When I include TutDeck
into the Decks Folder Blaze stands in water starting dialog with Malcomb.
I can do the Stormy Start, but a lot does not work ie shortcuts to cabin and decks.
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

What about compile.log and system.log? Those are generated every time you start a game. If those aren't being generated, you need to turn on logging in your engine.ini. There are instructions on how to do that somewhere on the forum.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> I seem to have had the wrong settings in engine.ini,
anyhow here is the Error.log

I know this is probably insulting your intelligence, but you did follow these direction, right?

1) Make sure you have Build 13 installed properly

2) Remove the folder RESOURCE\MODELS\locations\DECKS

3) Extract the Build 14 Alpha version on top of your game

4) Run preset.bat

5) Run RunMe.bat

6) Reset the controls to default!

7) Change the game's settings, controls, etc. and play

You did follow these instructions? Or you did now and it IS working now? Anyway: There appeared to be some problems with the Build 14 Alpha 1 pack, most of which are fixed by using <a href="http://members.optusnet.com.au/~jaldridge1/POTC/Build14alpha_Fixes1.zip" target="_blank">this</a> fixpack by Jonathan Aldridge.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Thanks Pieter, downloading fix, also Jonathon is looking at my Dir to see
if he can find anything. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Pirates,
Well, I had some go at 14Alpha, but no success!
Looks like I'll play 13.0.2.3 for a while which is realy
very good! I realy like to thank the Modders for the
work put into this! I like to say a special thank you to
Jonathan Aldridge for his help! Have a very good
holiday and enjoy all your Christmas presents! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

I installed B14 alpha 2 yesterday and noticed that there's an error in installation procedure:
- it's said to remove decks folder first
- extract zipfile over B13
- run preset.bat
- etc.

Unfortunately, two last lines of preset.bat file remove decks folder again, this time with correct files! The solution might be made in two ways:
1. Delete two last lines in preset.bat file and carry on with procedure from Pieter's page.
2. Run preset.bat before extracting a zipfile, but <b>not</b> later.

I think that should fix problems with black screens. It worked yesterday on my computer, but I started it once after the instalation and hadn't much time to make more tests.

I updated the installation instructions on my site. The installation order IS correct now. Thanks for noticing that, Pirate_KK! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Tried Pirate KK's way and Pieter's as per Website and still no luck,
still looking at a Black Screen! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Did you execute preset.bat from the main PotC directory, where ENGINE.EXE is? Eventually, try installing from the scratch.

When do you get black screens, when starting in cabin or in port?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> pirate_kk, I tried so many things ie as per instructions on Pieter's Page
and the one where you delete the last two lines in Preset.bat etc.
I still think the problem is with the New Decks folder and tutdeck and the ref. to
other files. I even tried one without del. the Decks folder, but that stuffs it up!
Well, when desperate one gives anything a go! Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
