1st post and some questions

mAIOR

Landlubber
Hi all. I'm new to the boards and let me say I love your work and all that stuff you're probably too tired of earing right now.
I haven't found a proper introduction area so, I hope you don't mind I make my 1st post here (this is what drove me to this forum after all).
My name is Miguel and I'm from Portugal.

Now, as for my question, I've read the build 13 readme and I have a question about the no ships 1st class being boughtable...
I believe it should be like with the pirate ships you'd have to become a corsair for a nation in order for them to sell you their 1st class ships...
It makes sense I guess...

Cheers...

Welcome to the forums, mate! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Glad you're enjoying the Build! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

About your idea - pretty good one, definitely one to be looked into in my opinion. But not atm, I think - <b>ze team</b> is adding the polish to the thirteenth installment of the Build as we speak! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I don't know if in build 13 this is corrected but most ships waterline is too low... if it were a real ship thy'd be down with the fishes for a long time.

Hello mAIOR. Welcome to the forum! I hope you will enjoy your stay here! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I heard reports of class 1 ships not being available at shipyards, but I have checked that issue myself and although class 1 ships are indeed pretty rare, I have at least encountered one at the Redmond shipyard*. I believe that with the RPG Shipyard mod the class of the ships available is based on the town size and class 1 ships would only be available in the largest of large towns. Not sure which towns these are.
* Note: This was while using my own new version of the Realistic Shipyard mod and not while using the version currently in the modpack.

The Realistic Ship Purchase mod causes navy ships (Corvette's, Frigate's, Battleships, Manowars, etc.) to not appear in shipyards at all. The idea is that the shipyard wouldn't sell their navy ships to any privateer, let alone possible enemies of the crown. I will have this mod removed from the next Beta though. Once Build 13 is released, I am going to add my own version of the Realistic Ship Purchase mod into Build 13.1. I already coded it and I think it works fine. But it does need more testing, because I have hardly done any testing on it myself yet.

My version of the mod is more sophisticated than the current version. Rather than always disabling the selling of large ships, I have made it so that you can buy any ship, but if you want to buy navy ships, you must have a Letter of Marquee and must have the required naval rank. And in the case of the pirate shipyard, you must be a pirate yourself for the pirate shipyard to sell you pirate design ships.

There one or two ships that had their waterlines set too low, but these were fixed in one of the Pre Build 13 versions many months ago. Nothing has been done about waterlines since. If you are using the Build 13 Beta version, then you might want to edit PROGRAM\SHIPS\ships_init.c yourself to heighten the waterlines on some ships. This should be reasonably easy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
I would not worry to much about some ships not available at shipyards!!
Capture them Pirats! Much more fun and a lot cheaper!!
Did you notice the prices of these ships???
I come across them at Redmond and Isla Muelle. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Hi Pieter,

Your proposed shipyard plan (the selling and availability of ships) sounds excellent! Three cheers for that!!!

I am wholeheartedly in agreement that the most powerful ships would NOT be for sale in normal circumstances. Historically, they just wouldn't - and for that matter ships of that size and strength were rare and very precious.

I also quite like the idea that if you are an OFFICER in that nations' Navy, well in that case you might be entitled to purchase a warship - of the size and strength proportionate to your rank, so as your rank increased, larger ships would be available.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Good work, and I look forward to seeing it in action.

H.M.M.

I'm glad you like the idea. I already made the mod and I think it works. But it requires thorough testing, so I won't add it to Build 13. But it will be added to Build 13.1. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

You will be pleased to know that my mod works exactly as you propose. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Exelent!! Thoise are great news indeed <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
Now, where do you uys get the data for the ships?? I mean their specs like turning ratio, maximum speed, etc...

Cheers...

No I meant at a realistic leve:p I mean the R&D part...
Also, is anyone reskining the decks of the ships?? cause when I board an enemy ship and the boarding occurs only in one ship, the decj is beautifully decorated but, when I zoom to 1st person ,the deck is rather plain... Also it'd be nice to have a diferent deck for kind of ship. It'd make the game fa more inteesting GP wise...
Oh is there any way to make corpses non physical objects?? I'm tired of being unable to face brigands or such cause there are bodies on the ground.

Cheers...

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> mAIOR
There are settings you can adjust in the " Buildsettings.h" file to change the way corpses are handled in your game.

By the way, you can use corpses as road blocks. It gives you time to catch your breath and drink a potion or two. You can shoot over them and go around them.

If your really blocked, and need to keep fighting, while keeping your sword drawn, press the "O" key and you can loot the body. then it disappears and you can go forward.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Also, can anyone tell me how to find the Black Pearl??<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Oh, it will find you ... twice in the game.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> I changed the WaterLine value to -0.0 for BermudaSloop263 in
InternalSettings.h and the deck is not awash any more! I think it was
0.2. I tried other settings but found this to be the best one.
So you should be able to change all the other ships to your liking! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Thanks for reminding me. I meant to ask mAIOR about that.

mAIOR, could you let us know exactly which ships you find too low.
If you can't find the model name, then just the ship type and what colors/designs should be sufficient.

That way we can look into making the needed corrections and Pieter can add that to the Build's "Ships_init.c" file.

Well, this isn't the ansewer to the waterline (I'll have to do more testing and I've got not enough time) but seriously men, I loved your answer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />
I can almost imagine you in mid XV century siting in a tavern telling me that:p

lol really amusing

mAJOR,
What do you mean by trying to find the Black Pearl, do you mean in the texture files?

I was talking in game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I found it in the texture files already...
Now, there seems to be something wrong with the main quest.
I started a new game with the british (my boat being a galleoth) and when I left oxbay, the entire french fleet was waiting for me... Now, no matter how good a player you are, how can you evade a class one ship and two class two ships with a class 5 ship??
Oh and it's mAIOR with an i not with a J

Cheers...

Hint on Port Oxbay, it helps ALOT if you raise a flag of a country that is friends with France.

Sorry bout that spelling, I should have checked before typing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

If you've play the main quest, you'll run into the Black Pearl, if you want to run buy or run into it in normal battles, you have to edit the ship file to make it buyable or encounterable. Not sure if this answers your question or not. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> I can answer that one: most of the small ships like sloops, luggers and up to corvette.
I set mine to 0.0 if you like them further out of the water set a minus i.e. -0.01 etc.
Even the big ones like MoW set to low as when making a turn all the lower gunports
are under water! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Apparently you are using a Pre Build 13 modpack version, but not the latest update. Go to <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org" target="_blank">my site</a> and get Build 13 Beta 1.
