For those of you, fellas, who might possibly be interested to learn more about the Russian release here are some facts (taken from Akella's forum in Russian) -

The game is going to be released both in 3xCD and 1xDVD format as “Corsairs III” by 1C. The release version is likely to be v.0.99, i.e. there are a few recognized bugs; the v.1.0 patch seems to be ready (5 megs non-compressed = 1 to 3 megs zipped) and is expected to become available on the official 1C website either right on December 9th or a few days later.

There is one thing that will spoil a bit the fun – as almost any other 1C title Corsairs III are going to be released with the StarForce copy protection system, which is indeed a pain in the ass (e.g. once the disk is a bit damaged (you know, these little scratches that eventually appear) the StarForce may stop recognizing it as original = bad luck, you have to go and buy another one - cute, huh).

Yep, tomorrow I'm going to buy my copy/download the patch and try it over the weekend.

I don't know guys why it needs to take these extra 4-6 mo just to translate it - that's strange. Funny thing, it seems that the Russian release perhaps will have the names of at least some of the NPCs spelled in English (is this a POTC leftover)- they are going to fix it in the patch.

Anyway, good luck with the English, etc. releases - hope they won't take that much time.

OK, guys this is just to confirm that the game is on sale in Russia as of today - Russian gaming forums will from now be overflown with discussions and screenshots (for those of you who may want to try their luck with Russian or at least have some spare time to invest into clicking at random to see occasional screenshots here's the Akella's Corsairs III forum- <a href="http://www.akella.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26)" target="_blank">http://www.akella.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26)</a>

one guy got his copy even before the official release and posted aplenty of screenshots at <a href="http://legend.seaward.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=3355" target="_blank">http://legend.seaward.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=3355</a>

v.0.99 No patch available so far.

Sorry, can't help better

2 Keith: Nope, no free giveaways - just some t-shirts. bandanas, etc. distributed by participating stores to those who managed to be the first to grab the game (you need to buy 3 titles by 1C to be eligible, but sometines they just give it to you when you buy just C III).

Akella's site is not too good for any news on C III anymore - that's 1C's business - here's the official site of 1C/ The patch will appear there, too. If you follow the links on the left you'll find some news + screenshots.

Translating isn't the issue here, bugfixing is. And you'll be doing the bughunting. Does that make more sense?

huhuh, yeah. And I was really outraged with the 0.99 official release version - like 'it's the most stable beta we could do - take it or leave it'. But let's see what version's going to be available for the English release by mighty Akella/PlayLogic duo.

2 Keith: same thing I guess. There's also a general promo by 1 C for many of their titles (buy XXX of our titles - send the coupons - get the joystick - type of thing) , but nowhere does it promise C III giveaways.

Actually, it's a bargain anyway - you can get either 3xCD or 1XDVD for approx. US$8-10 - no booklet though, but hey, we need trees for ships, not shitty manuals, right?

Thanks mpiglet for keeping us informed. If you don't mind write us a review of what you think about the game and how much you like it. Would be great. Only if you have spare time off course.

Well since we have till march now is a good time to restart the potc modding community instead of sitting on our arses doing nothing but waiting for this <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Corsairs III. First impressions.

Mmmmm dunno what to say. Well, technically it is stable. Rather. I have certain bugs with speech & sound, but this may be due to my hardware/system. It never got my system crashed - I'm impressed, no sh*t. Lucky me (others are not so lucky though).

In terms of gameplay it feels like a crossbreed between POTC and SeaDogs (the cities are indeed SeaDog-ish type of thing - no jungle, etc.). Like, Seadogs in a POTC costume. Yeah, the sea looks super. The interface is way less consolish - generally it is OK. I liked it, though I'm a bit disappointed with the cities - POTC was better in this respect if you ask me.

v 0.99 + 1.0 patch (yes, it has been released on Friday), but it's indeed still a beta. Bugs, bugs, bugs.
I cannot progress, really as many bugs pertain to (1) shipyard (repairs are rigged with bugs - I cannot properly repair my cannos, f.ex.), (2) boarding other ships (btw, the duels with the enemy captains are indeed hard; oh and your cannons explode all the time - that's tough), (3) crew morale (it drops no matter what - there is a huge discussion on the official forum whether it's a bug or a feature).

Well, I am not a beta tester. and I'll stop playing until there is another patch.

Some people claim that they manage to play without serious bugs - well, perhaps. Others (many others) are outraged - the forum server barely works now.

My personal impression - we've got a rather stable beta. You're still envious? Perhaps it is worth it wait for another 1-2 months.

Frankly, I'm still a little envious for i wait for this such a long time.

But,indeed,we can't play a game like this with so many bugs. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Maybe its english version will be much better.

Thanks mpiglet for bringing us info in time.

And i've got a question,is there only one city/port on each island?

Well, frankly I am way too offended by Akella's/1C's approach (which, to sum it up, sounds like "well guys, what did you want for your meager 10 bucks - we will fix everything till the English release, which is going to be sold for 50 bucks") - I am not in a mood to serve as a public beta tester as I already have a job, thanks but no thanks. Guess what? I'll wait till either finalized Russian version or English release and until that i'm not going to play.

Cities - there is at least one island with three cities.
You cannot build new ones (like in the major 'Return of Sea Legend' POTC mod by AlexusB, which mod supposedly inspired the developpers, at least somehow).
They look like a hybrid between POTC cities and SeaLegend's, that is, they are closed locations, no surrounding jungles. The cities are rather heavily populated with standard inhabitants having little to say apart from what is required for certain randomly generated quests. Same goes for street vendors - they just sit there, selling nothing of value to you. The whole thing looks OK, but isn't alive, if you catch my drift.

The game looks a bit hollow and uninhabited and somehow lacks the atmosphere - there is little else apart from the randomly generated standard quests (cargo/passenger delivery, destroy ship, etc.) - you can get bored quickly - it is supposed to pass for a 'player's freedom' - is it? I'm not sure. More quests needed. There is only one preset major quest, but I did not manage to make much of a progress (yeah, I'm not too curious - I need a working product).

Verdict - BETA; VERY promising for modding (same open architecture as in POTC). Perhaps in the next few months the developers will add more functionality - but I do not expect much.
Oh, yeah, the sea is excellent, go get some top notch GForce or Ati trinket.

By 'same open architecture' do you mean, they provided the 'c-code' files and engine.exe interprets them
at run time, as in POTC ?

Well , I was like many others waiting for the game to come alive and released , even was kinda upset when I knew that it wont be released at the same time as in Russia but after reading all about that the game is a little bugy then it seems that it would be better to wait for 3 more months , at least the developers will get the chance to fix those bugs and we will most likely buy the game with no bugs . <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

In other subject , Pirates Of The Purning Sea beta has started ( closed beta ) . Only 23 persons are beta testing the game now but FLS ( game developer ) will allow more people to beta test the game in the cmoing weeks till the release .. maybe late March or early April 06 , so we can expect 2 great games coming around early spring 06 . <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
