a few ideas

I know the topic of piloting a course has been brought up what about telling your navigator to sail to a certain place or maintain a certain course?

One thing that has always bothered me i have 2-3 ships with me i see a ship i want i start attacking it so do they problem is I am using chain or grapes
they are not I want an order to be able to tell them not to sink the ship or to tell them use a certain load chain, grapes ect I want help wearing the enemy down not sinking the dang ship ...maybe help in boarding option 2 ships boarding an enemy better than one..

decks in port matching the ship your on like the do sailing
night time lighting if the ship has the fancy lanterns while sailing or in 3ed person view maybe (good for spotting the enemy at night)
working ships logbook

I know these are mostly not possible i think anyway just ideas...

Some good ideas there mate! I mainly just take all cannon balls and bombs away from my companions and just leave them with grape and chain. Of course, that's not an option if your sailing with an NPC. Usually I just tell them to sail away and take care of the fight myself. The AI in the game definitely needs some work. It would be sweet if we could tie that into the little ship icon menu on companion vessels so you could tell them what to fire like you can tell them to sail away.

2 ship boarding is an interesting concept, it would make taking on the big capitol ships lot easier from smaller vessels, I have absolutely no clue whether it is doable or not. It would require some fancy coding I'm sure. Not to mention fantastic sailing and timing on the players part, getting both ships in position for boarding at the same time would be quite a feat!

Night time lighting does work in CoAS, but that's an updated engine, not sure if we can get it to work in POTC.

The ships log is one of the things that has annoyed me about these games ever since Sea Dogs, you should be able to write whatever you want in your ships log! Not just updated quest stuff. I'm wondering if maybe there might be a way to add a new screen for a "Personal Log" where you could actually write all the stuff you want to remember. I may just have to put some of those tutorials I am working on to use!

They are actually great ideas, all of them.

Unfortunately this game's AI is just rather primitive under "wingman" control; I think the companion ship feature is more for "damsel in distress" ships to escort, as well as prizes to send back to port.

This game definitely isn't setup for wolfpack style operations, without a proper tactical interface (like East India Company).

All of those things do sound pretty cool, but I don't see any of it happening any time soon.
In fact, for most of it we'd need access to the game's source code, which we should be getting soon,
but that still doesn't mean it's going to happen any time soon.

Pirate_KK once wanted to add a "Ship's Log" interface into the game,
which is still apparent because of the "Log" tab in the F2 interface.
He never got round to actually doing it though.

Geeze, sometimes I am blind as a bat! I never even noticed that button was grayed out and didn't function before! :facepalm

I may just have to do a bit of investigating... :?

Damn I never thought of taking away what i don't want them to use...too simple :) are their bombs like in the stock poc i have not found any, no option to tell the gunner to make them?

You can steal bombs from forts. There's some that you can access from the shore-side,
where you can still find bombs. Otherwise, it's mainly forts that use the bombs against YOU. ;)

Ahh very good I raided a fort but their was a bug and i got nothing...another idea i would like to be able to have different size cannons on my ships a mix between long guns and cannons

Having different guns in the ship is indeed an awesome idea, specially if you can have some of those rotate guns (they are weak, but they can fire at more directions).

I don't think the game engine really supports this.
Might be possible at some point, especially once we get that source code.

That's a CoAS feature, where gun attrition is modelled and you can carry replacement cannon.

I thought the idea was having multiple calibres of cannons installed on the same ship,
eg. 18 pounders on the bottom deck and 12 pounders on the top deck or something.
That is something I don't think is very possible; or at the very least, not easy to accomplish.

Carrying additional guns aboard as part of the ship's cargo and use those to replace broken guns
should be very possible in PotC also. Just requires some coding and a cannon goods interface picture.

I thought it was like how you said as well Pieter :yes

And without the source code I dont think that is possible at all to code and could be difficult even with the source code

Well, if it isnt possible to make the first option, then just having extra cannons in the cargo hold to replace the guns on deck is enough.

Believe me, cannon management IS in CoAS. Besides there are good realism mod efforts there too. God knows what they'd have come up with by the time we had Build 14 Final.
