A Few Questions :)

Howdy fellow pirates :)

1) Clint Eastwood only uses his fists and for some reason his guns are not able to kill me. He can shoot me multiple times all the way down to 1 health but it never goes to 0. A weird bug but was wondering if he is supposed to not have a sword?

2) Any time I run into a pirate or enemy on the world map I get a "Yes or No" option on engaging them. What decides when the "No" option is greyed out? Is it a random dice role?

3) When I do fight those enemies from the world map, we always spawn really far away from each other which allows me to quickly escape back to the world map. Is this intentional or should I be practicing some self-control here? :)

4) Speaking of self-control, the Poker gambling mini-game is now way too easy to be exploited. I can do an initial bet of 100 gold and then if I get a high hand I can then bet the maximum before we show our cards. The computer musty always bet with me so even if they don't have good cards they will bet maximum as well. So I can bet 100 gold for every bet until I get 3 Aces and then I can raise to the max and win every time! Not a big deal but I kind of never lose these now lol

Thank you :)

1) I could be mistaken, but I think it's impossible for the AI to shoot the player to death. To give the player some chance against superior enemies, and it just feels bad getting one-shot. Not sure about the Clint Eastwood situation, but that sounds like an easter-egg thing to me.

2) It should be determined by your ship(s) speed. So if the enemy is faster then you, you will have to engage them.

3) This has been tweaked multiple times, but you either spawn fairly far away and can get away easily, or spawn right in the middle of their fleet. Neither is really great so we currently have a decent "middle-ground"

4) I think you have just beaten the mini-game

1: Indeed guns can not kill you otherwise you wouldn't survive the first time someone hits you with a musket. Clint Eastwood is indeed an Easter egg. There's been a pump-action shotgun in the game since the original, unmodded version, so someone decided to make use of it. Of course, a pump action shotgun in the 16th-19th centuries is total nonsense, so you can only see it in Arcade mode; he gets a brace of four horse pistols in Realistic mode. Some folks like the simpler sailing model in Arcade mode but don't like the nonsense shotgun, so there's now a setting in "InternalSettings.h" called "CLINT_SHOTGUN" which can be changed to 0 to give him the horse pistols in Arcade mode. And in "Napoleonic" period he gets a Collier revolver instead of the brace of four horse pistols.

2: I'm not sure if it's speed or sailing skill.

3: Indeed, it used to be that you'd spawn right next to the enemy ships. I tried to set the distance somewhere between "immediately at close range" and "somewhere on the horizon", not entirely successfully. The initial range can also depend on how far away you were from the enemy on the worldmap when the switch to sailing mode happened. At least it's reasonably consistent with direct sailing - if you never go to worldmap and instead sail the whole way to the next island, and meet an enemy fleet on the way, they'll also spawn at long range.

4: Even by exploiting the betting system, you're not guaranteed to win if you have lower "Luck" skill than your opponent, as I've found a few times! But you are a lot more likely to fleece the other guy by playing poker than by playing dice or vingt-un. In any case, if you like the gambling mini-game, check out the casino in Cartagena. For good measure, try starting a FreePlay as a Gambler; then, when an opponent eventually invites you to a tavern room to gamble for a woman, accept the offer, and make sure you do gamble - don't kill him! There's something special for the professional gambler...
