Super Zealot
I have to admit that everytime I get back to the PotC Build Mod I quit playing it again at some point.
And the reason for this is that I don't like the look of islands and I don't like that I can't sail to other island without any loading screens and sometimes the game just feels plain boring. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I'm trying to say that it would be wise to finish the mod ITSELF first and that starts with making new scripts work correctly and without bugs (that thing is being worked on, right?) and the second biggest thing what should be done are making those islands more realistic/interesting (and ports also) and making a ability to sail to them without any loading screens or freakish-idiotic-buggy time skipping which spoils the fun, also there should be made some kind of special navigating menu thingy so it'd be alot easier to sail to islands in realistic sailing mode (AND NOT THE MAP MODE! Mind you! I hate the map mode <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />). And there's plenty of other things needed to be added.

This game has loooong way till it's finished. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

By the way I won't be finishing my little texture mods yet. I've got a much important things to do (in real life)
I really can't waste my time much. I'll be mostly messing in The Burning Brig forum sometimes and I think I'll soon have to leave from there too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerbz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nerbz" border="0" alt="nerbz.gif" />

To get rid of that reloadings a <b>whole</b> map would need to be loaded <b>at once</b>, together with a single model for <b>all islands</b> existing in game (for both sailng mode and walking on land), even inside parts of the biuldings. If that even was possible (I can be wrong but I doubt that's doable), even if we skip considerations about how much time and resources that project would take, it would be the best way to make game even more unstable than it's now (together with all those bugs present), because you'll load whole alot data, using computer memory to maximum for a long time (as long as you quit the game). The longer time one would play, the bigger probability that something will go wrong.

Sorry, but what <i>some kind of special navigating menu thingy</i> for? If you think about something I would describe as "fast travel from one island to another" that would be done. Alas, we are skipping the game's best part: sailng on sea!

We have Edwards Zaitsev from Seaward.ru going on record saying that a mod to sail from island to island without using the map at all is impossible, because the game simply cannot have all island loaded at once. Like Pirate_KK points out, it requires a lot of computing power and is bound to make the game a lot less stable. IF it can be done at all. The fact that we HAVE that DirectSail mod made by CouchcaptainCharles is more than, I think, the people of Seaward.ru would ever have believed possible. Sure you DO have some reloads, but I'm pretty much convinced that's the best that can be done. Also I don't really mind reloads in PotC THAT much, because the reload time isn't actually all that long. It's just 10-30 seconds or so at most. I recall a game where there was reloads almost all the time and the reload time was about five minutes or so. PotC isn't quite that bad, is it?

As for the look of the islands and ports, that isn't exactly our fault, is it? We never made them and we don't even know how to either.

They are? I never saw long reload times in the game ever and I did try on several computers. Sounds like you really need a new one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Cylon13, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

When it starts to feel like work, it's definitely time to take a break! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

Sorry to hear that real life is intruding as well, been dealing with a bit of that myself of late, but there's always some time to waste and I've found that PA is a better place to do it than many others. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Then the best thing to do with making the realistic sailing between islands simplier and easier and more comfortable is to improve the current DirectSail mod. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Umm.. making this real time sailing from island to island length shorter. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

If you want your voyages shorter, why don't you use the MAP? DirectSail is akin to real life sailing which actually DOES take a long time. How would you propose having realistic real life direct sailing without using map sailing mode that doesn't take a long time? Sounds rather contradictory to me. You either have realistic direct sailing that takes a long time or you have map sailing that takes a short time. The whole point of making the DirectSail mod is to add realism realism and then making the voyages shorter again goes against the whole purpose of the mod. In any case you've got the time speed-up buttons to pass the time a lot more quickly. This allowed me to sail from island to island in about 10 to 15 minutes, excluding any delays because of any encountered enemies. Any quicker would just be silly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

<img src="http://fc04.deviantart.com/fs20/f/2007/298/3/b/Great_axe_by_Maxian.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Oh well, I'm going to make my point clear: Direct sailing is not good enough! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/764.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":764:" border="0" alt="764.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/764.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":764:" border="0" alt="764.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/764.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":764:" border="0" alt="764.gif" /> It should be developed further! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thwalkplank.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":walkplank" border="0" alt="thwalkplank.gif" />
I'm not having much fun by just sailing forever with loading screens and map sucks too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" />
Even Sea Dogs and Port Royale II has better maps than PotC. I don't know.. it just doesn't feel like I'm playing a game about 17th century, it's more like playing a game about "bugs in 17th century". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I really would like to play a game about ships but... Wait, I think I'm gonna check the sid meier pirates demo (if it exists). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

And yes I came all the way back here with A FRIGGIN' AXE! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

No, that axe will be mine to use on Morgan. IF you think, that this mod is not good enough fix it yourself. CCC has did a wonderful job, even the guys of seaward.ru thought that this would not be possible. And sidmeier pirates hasn't got a 3d sailing mode and their ship to ship combat sucks, it is aracade.

Aaah! but my axe was used to cut myself a way here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Anyways, Sounds like the only way to improve PotC is indeed removing the bugs and such. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Sorry I'm just suggesting and I know nothing much about modding I only know how to mess with the ships but ships won't make a good game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" />

One of whom we hear from about once every couple of months and one of whom is drowning in work.

Anyway, what would you like to see changed in the DirectSail mod? Be specific if possible. We could use ideas, but we need ideas that can actually be realized. Removing the reloads between the islands is simply impossible. Edward Zaitsev already said as much. CCC already did more than even Akella and seaward.ru though possible.

Direct Sail could be shorter so there won't come many loading screens like 10 before getting to a island.. it's boring. The length could be reduced alot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Oh and also this Direct Sail mod's.. now how do I say it? Well, there's this thing - after one hour the sail ho/loading screen pops up? Right? The thing is what makes it unrealistic is that when I am finishing off a enemy ship or about to board it and the sail ho pops up and after that the enemy ship is just gone. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> I think there should be a circular invisible line around the 3d sailing scenery (battles, islands, open sea) and if you cross it the sail ho pops up and for battles/encounters and just open sea the circular line could be made by your ship when it spawns so you would be at the centre of this circle. This kind of thing would help shorten the time to get to an island faster. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

You can easily tweak the amount of reloads, I think. Also you can disable the DirectSail updates with the 0 key, so that enemy ships don't disappear. Actually there IS code to prevent that from happening, but it only applies to hostile ships, I think, not to surrendered ones.

I'll check it. Here goes me shore party... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/trio-pirates.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":trio" border="0" alt="trio-pirates.gif" />

and i was thinking the lenght between the islands was too short.....

well, my suggestion about the directsail mod is what i believe is the one that is most suggested at the moment.

The idea is: Improving the life during the trips. I mean, add a possibility to allow your character to walk on the deck during all the time and do what you want to do, like climb the ropes, turn the helm, fish the dinner, hunt seabirds, talk with the crew, improve your skills, etc. Thats what we need to make the directsail mod more realistic than ever. We should discover a way to do that.

If you are bored sailing from an island to another, we dont need to shorten the lenght between the islands, we just need to make the trip less boring, am i wrong? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
