A question about map

Rad

Privateer
I would like to ask if the sailing map could be somehow fixed in the style that when anybody would enter it it would be orientated in the same dirrection every time. While it isn´t so, every time when I enter it I have some difficulties in what dirrection I should sail. I think this fix would be quite relief. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

Does it change for you? It's always the same for me.

I expect up on the map to be north, but north and south are reversed for me (on the compass in world view [as in Redmond is south of oxbay).

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> When I play the game I have a printed version in front of me!
To make one, open the map in the game press F8 look for it in your
PotC folder, open with Paint prog. and print it. It is also available at
Pieter Website, I think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I never noticed this issue at all. But if it indeed IS the case, I don't know how to fix it either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

To Cmdr Quan: What game version are you using? I fixed the compass many months ago. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I checked it and really my map is every time oriented diferently and this makes me almost mad already. Pieter would you know what to do or what to check if you say you corrected this problem in the past? I still have it in my game and I always had this problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

If I recall correctly, IncredibleHat looked into this and said that it would take a huge amount of work to have everything oriented correctly, the problem began when all the additional islands were added. Maybe someone in the future will have time to work on it now, but I think getting Build 13 finished and release is top priority.

I looked at the code briefly, and if there's a way to make the worldmap always have north at the top it's not obvious. It looks like it checks the orientation of your ship to decide how to rotate the map.

I may look into it more later.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> I didn't even know about this since I always use the printed
version downloaded from Pieters? Website. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

I will try to paint it too. Maybe it will be useful. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

About the compass: If you install the Build 13 Beta version in the right order, then all compasses and maps agree on what is North.

I would like to play out the game to the end with Beta 1 because I always started play it again and again. And I don´t like that already. Only with some substantial good changes yes. I want to know what happens in the end of the game now after some long time and if main storyline and some quests work well.

What about map concerns I don´t know if we understand each other exactly. I would like only if the map was every time oriented in the same dirrection so as I would know almost blindfold where to sail. I don´t care if the map will be oriented to north or south only so as it was always turned the same way. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

My comment on the compass was meant for Cmdr Quan. His compass doesn't agree with the map on what is North.

I don't know what to do about the direction of the map. I think it may be hardcoded the way it is, meaning we can't change it. But if I ever encounter a way to change it, I'll do it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Never mind Pieter. Mybe someday someone will find out what causes it and do something about it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Is it just me? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I thought that was supposed to be that way. You go from sea mode to map mode with your ship pointed and sailing in the direction you were in at sea mode.

Since your sailing is forward, then the map would be rotated to show forward movement to the correct compass bearing.

I think this is fine <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

For me would be fine if map was every time oriented in the same direction so as I could sail when I want without any hesitation and searching where this f*****g Dowseen lies this time again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> Maybe it was supposed to be this way but I can tell I don´t like it this way. Anyway nobody knows how to fix it for now. And there could exist some option here as always..... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I think it's fine too. I wouldn't want my ship reoriented, or the map reoriented so my ship isn't facing forward. There's no third option. But if I'm in that part of the code and I see how to do it, I'll make up a fix just for Rad. I'm interested in finding out whether he likes the effect after he plays it.

Hook

Thanks, it would be fine. I think some another people would like it too. But no reorientation of the ship I never suggested that. And I think it wouldn´t be necessary neither. In Sead Dogs it worked exactly the way I would like. The only difference is that there wasn´t 3D map but only 2D map. I hope Hook you don´t mind I still bother you with this Sea Dogs. I have no another better comparison for anything so far because I don´t have AoP yet. And if it would be optional I think all would be satisfied. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />
By the way do you know whether is it possible to put here some larger screenshots except this one that can have about 78 kB? We could share some our screenshots from our games or even from some another games. I think it could be fine and amusing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

And one more thing. The pirate chasing quests really don´t work here in Beta 1. I didn´t encounter any of them except the one just only at the beginning of the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

It indeed IS suppose to be that way. It has always been like that since the stock game. But apparently Rad doesn't like it the way it's supposed to be.

Use an online picture server, such as <a href="http://www.imageshack.us" target="_blank">ImageShack</a>.

That's odd. Can anybody confirm that? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Yea, not sure what Rad's doing with this one, but I've plugged many hours into the Beta 1 and have done dozens of Pirate hunting quests just fine. If anything, I'd say they work better than ever as I'm encountering a much wider variety of Pirate opponents (by that I mean many different ship types and paint jobs....). I'm going to have to give the "All Clear!" to the Pirate hunting quests in Beta 1.

Cheers all,
