A question, for the modders, about Isabella

giocoso

Freebooter
In the game vanilla the name of Isabella is ”Olivares” (husband's name); in the mod GoF is “Tiepolo”.
Tiepolo is the name of great painter Giambattista Tiepolo (1696-1770), and the name of a ancient family of noble Venetians from which sprang many Doges and great sailors (also corsairs vs Turkish! :)) ).
Quote a Italian site on this question:

Google-traslation of the post:
“Also returning on the Isabella, a curious remark:
In the game smooth ("vanilla"), Isabella has her husband's surname, i.e. Olivares.
In the mod GoF, curiously, has the surname "Tiepolo".
A tribute, perhaps, to the great Venetian painter Giambattista Tiepolo (1696-1770), which is chronologically cmq back to the history of Age of Pirates, starting from 1665.
Or it could indicate - in the imagination of the PAhoy Modders - which comes from the Isabella family of Tiepolo, who were the nucleus of the oldest Venetian nobility (the "Old House"), those noble words which according to tradition, have contributed to the foundation of the Serenissima.
Both assumptions are valid.
All buildings and interiors of the game are packed with reproductions of paintings by Italian Renaissance painters (among many others, recognized the works of Leonardo, Raffaello, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Tiziano, Tintoretto, and, I believe, Tiepolo).
On the other hand, the family of patricians Tiepolo (not relatives of the painter ...) and gave many famous people at the Venetian Doges, and contributed significantly to the creation of power and prestige of the Venetian navy, and this may have inspired the modders. ..”

Who have inspired the modders? The painter or the family? Or is casual?

You are correct Giocoso,

However, Officerpuppy was the inspired one. He loves to add depth to the story lines and researched the whole Venetian angle. He ran it by the rest of us and we all loved the idea. Officerpuppy gets the credit for the change. Notice how he changed the character both facially and in dress, to look more like a Venetian nobleman over the plainer vanilla COAS character.

He will probably really enjoy that someone noticed his handywork. Hats off to OP!

PoTC had four or five Italian accent voice clips which were never used and I wanted to find a way to put them into CoAS. So I came up with the idea of making Isabella's husband Italian and giving him a unique model as opposed to the generic one that he used to be.

So I needed an Italian last name, I'm not quite sure how I came upon this, probably looking for 17th century Italian last names, I found this guy:

Bajamonte Tiepolo Although he wasn't from the 17th century, based on this list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doges_of_Venice, there weren't any more Doges with the Tiepolo surname. So that's when the back story came into my head. What if Salvatore was part of this ancient family which has had it's name disgraced and it's riches lost by the actions of his ancestor. What kind of evil deeds would Salvatore do in order to get a piece of that life of wealth and prestige back for himself?

I tried to write the dialog accordingly within the limits of the quest and just dropping subtle suggestions along the way such as when the hero first speaks to Attila. Unfortunately my new antagonist dies! So in another quest I briefly mention him and assume he's still alive when you do this quest. If I could write quests and code, id love to feature Salvatore in quest or two with the Isabella quest being his final appearance.

Lastly, look closely at Salvatore's belt, you'll see it looks very similar to this:

Mhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Doge_Giacomo_Tiepolo.png I figured if this crest was used by both dodges with the Tiepolo surname, why not put it on his buckle, a symbol of his family's heritage. The final touch was adding the Venetian lion to his vest.

:bow :bow
Very very interesting and sophisticated :yes
The symbol in the center of the crest
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Doge_Giacomo_Tiepolo.png
is the "Cappello Dogale" (=Doge's Hat), privilege of the Persons who have held the office of Doge.
Regard to Bajamonte Tiepolo , "Gran Cavaliere" (= Grand Knight), this is the link of the Italian Wikipedia (broader than the English, in this theme).
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bajamonte_Tiepolo
At his vicissitude, just after, is linked to the most famous Marin Falier (1285 – 1355),
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marin_Faliero
protagonist of tragic opera of Gaetano Donizetti "Marino Faliero"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marino_Faliero_(opera)
and, according to some historians, precursor of socialist and revolutionary ideas.
But, returning on Bajamonte Tiepolo, he had the "damnatio memoriae" (=condemnation of memory) personal, but not for the family, that was noble, powerful, rich and with the following famous people (ambassadors, admirals, leaders, "Podestà" = Chief magistrate of a city , etc...) also in times recent.
He did not, however, Doges after Lorenzo Tiepolo (died 1275).
....
P.S. In my game, the look of Salvatore Olivares is of a noble venetian, but the name remains Salvatore Olivares , not Tiepolo.
Only Isabella has the name Tiepolo.
I thought that Isabella descends from the family Tiepolo, not "the bastard" Salvatore :urgh

Ah, very interesting.

Yeah, sounds like a bug, both their surnames should be Tiepolo (they are married after all). I'll check that out one day or maybe someone else can look into it. It's not a terribly pressing matter though so I'm not concerned about it too much.

Knowing the Tiepolo history a bit more, perhaps one day when we can write new quests I'll modify his back story and just make him a very ambitious man who can't get enough wealth and power.

I'm sure every modder is dedicated and unlazy having to stare at 100's of lines of code every week Akella Fan :urgh I wouldn't be surprise that, if you look into their eyes, you see this window with infinite lines of code whizzing around at incredible speeds. They could program the matrix if they wanted to :nk
