A small Tribute to Hook & Hat for thier recent efforts!

the second guy is the main character from a pirate cartoon named "onepiece".his name his luffy, an he ate from a devil's fruit, and therefor his body is like rubber.

its even more of a superpower than this rubberman from the fantastic four got. luffy is-because of his powers-nearly invulnerable, and all the other mean bad ass pirates, that often are godlike beings really get their rear ends handed on a silver platter by luffy throughout the series.

luffy is always nice and funny about it, too <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

checkout onepiece. in the beginning i thought its another one of those crappy cheap cartoons, that were produced in a hurry, just to make money. then i figured out, it really rocks once in a while. and i mean like... REALLY.
 
some japanese animations are truely excellent <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> ( i dont know luffy though - but if its a pirate one then i'd probably like it)

Anyway i dont know if you remember(thinks for a second about some of the HUGE rambling posts i've made...possibly not in that case! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) but i droped the "hook & hat" pub name in another thread a ways back - said something about it making a good name for a pub in cornwall, and well it got me thinking that it would be much easier, and more appropriate to make a pub(or pubs even) in PotC with that name. It has a certain ring to it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Oh and its not copyrighted or anything - so IF you want to name a 'real' pub after it feel free - just give us all a free pint if any of us here ever visit <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

On the topic of sticking 'everyone' in the game - can i urge caution?(yeah i know its my fault!) And the reason is this - a pub called the "Hook & Hat" could have been entirely possible in a pirate game - without being an actual reference to we know who?

So imho if we are going to put people in the game - it needs to fit in the character of the game, otherwise it could damage the atmosphere:

"look that guy is Zak MacKraken(that modder dude) - he's wearing a t-shirt that says "L33T 1! OMFG!" and if you talk to him he'll tell you about his best score in UT deathmatch mode"

etc <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

So subtle is good and more fun actualy - stuff to find out about/stumble upon for the player?

Cap'n Doober sounds reasonably piratey to me. Now "Pieter Boelen" does not. But what about "Pieter Bloed"? That's Peter Blood translated into Dutch. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
yeah, those subtle things are more fun. i also like those rumors that involve NathanKell and Verruckt.

well in welsh it would mean 'Flower' - slightly differnt spelling(blawd/blod-yn). Which is much nicer than the german <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Pieter Flower rather than Pieter Silly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

language is odd isn't it? I would have thought the meaning in german+dutch would have been much closer?

it prolly is... some ancient language roots... you know... people used to say:
"if yer bleedin', ye 've been stupid".
and thats prolly how this words came out so close together.

i think it's fine. i mean, i've got an officer named Claeyse de Boer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> pieter boelen is pretty good in comparison to THAT.
