A wacky idea?

Short Jack Gold

Very ancient mariner
Storm Modeller
I was thinking of putting this up on the general forum to be available to ALL members to answer.
It has a serious purpose – and there are some “dummy” questions in there, but the hope is, given a sufficient number of replies, that we get a good idea of what the “general player” is looking for in the game.
I expect some “a game that doesn’t have bugs” replies, but they will have missed the point of the question so can be discounted.

I would like you guys to answer it here first – but expect a biased result given the nature of your respective interests in the first place.
But <b>if</b> we do agree to do it we could compare “our” results with those of the “general gamer”.

<b><u>If you DON’T think it’s a good idea – just say so.</u></b>

POST:
I would like some help with a survey I am conducting, so if you could take a few minutes to answer this I would be very grateful.
There are many different reasons for playing the various games on this forum, and as many payer types.

What type are you – please select <b>THREE</b> in descending order of importance and post your reply here.
(If you are a quest player first, then like being part of a community, then like pirate games:
your answer should be: Achiever – Joiner – Pirate)

There are NO WRONG answers and the names I have given each group are just for fun.
If I get a sufficient number of answers I will post the results here in a few days.

Thanks – so here are the types:

The "Achiever" - plays quests and must get to the end.
The "Blaster" - bigger more powerful ships - and plenty of enemies.
The “Battler” – likes sea battles – lots of them.
The “Caribbean” – likes Pirates of the Caribbean.
The “Fighter” – likes hack ‘em and wack’em games.
The “Gamer” – likes computer games of any sort.
The “Hacker” – likes to fix or change how things work.
The "Historian" - period ships - period enemies - period firepower.
The “Joiner” – likes to be part of a gaming community.
The “Models Modder” – likes to add his/her own stuff.
The "Money man" - wants to get as much wealth as possible, as fast as possible.
The “One gamer” – likes one game and sticks with it.
The “Pirate” – likes pirate games.
The “Sailor” – likes sailing games.
The “Story Modder” – likes writing stories for the game.
The “Power Player” – wants the highest rank and as big a fleet as possible.
“None of the above” – just write in what type of player you are.

End of post.

Realism,Historian,Simulation,Gamer,Pirate,Sailor,Modder...........(the list could go on).In short...Hardcore.

I'd say it's a good idea to post this one in a general forum.

As for me : 'Historian', 'Hacker', 'Pirate', 'Sailor'..

Definitly interesting and could potentially be posted elsewhere without really giving away the real purpose of the questions.
Possibly this could even be posted on the ModDB too, since it might be useful to have similar feedback even from people who are not particularly into pirate game.

I actually had the random -and probably BAD- idea that maybe there could be some sort of more advanced survey at some point,
where we'd ask people what they think would be good to have in a pirate game and maybe give out some copies of CoAS for the best replies.
But that is something for the future -if we decide it is a good idea at all- and should be done with the consent of seaward.ru, of course. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Either way, I'd be very interested to know what kind of ideas other people might have, especially also from actual regular gamers and non-pirate-game players.

Now as to my entry in your survey:

The "Sailor" likes sailing games. - That's how I originally started out, but with a real-life interest and not just games; of course I <i>was</i> into Virtual Sailor for many years before coming here
The "Caribbean" likes Pirates of the Caribbean. - But when that movie came out, I really liked it, so eventually I got the game
The "One gamer" likes one game and sticks with it. - And ended up liking the game so much to stick with it
The "Joiner" likes to be part of a gaming community. - Then I found the community and decided to join
The "Hacker" likes to fix or change how things work. - And I started messing around with the game

Gamer, hacker, models modder, achiever..... I could actually lay claim to every one of those titles depending on my mode and preference...

In a word, I fit in with damski here, I'd consider myself hardcore.

Shorty, you forgot one:
Adventurer - Likes to figure out everything in game, reach every of game endings, reach every possibility and find every treasure in the game. In other words, to complete it in 100%

Pirate, Hacker, Adventurer(non of above)

Thanks for pointing it out.

I feel guilty posting in a topic where everyone has greater than 500 posts, but I'd have to go with SuperDurnius.

Don't worry about it.

Historian, One-gamer, "Models Modder" wannabe <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Battler, hacker, joiner, gamer.

I'll play one game for a few months, then move on to another. I don't play more than one game at a time, unless you count Windows solitaire. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I enjoy figuring out how to get things done in a game, then sharing that knowledge with other players. If a game is modable, I'll eventually get around to modding it. If it's not modable, I often analyze the file structures and play with them, often converting maps from one wargame game to another or writing map editors for the games.
