Adapt Ships?

Seb

Privateer
Storm Modder
Do you think it would be possible to adapt more ships than the manowar and the battleship from AOP to POTC, there are little wonders of ships in AOP (the lineship, the warship, the pinnace, the biggest of the two galleons, the caravel, shooner, lugger, sloop, the frigate, the brig, the barque the corvette?) it would be wonderful, but a problem is that we could have restrictions because of the policy...

The policy? Or copyright? I can't imagine Akella mind us transferring files between games providing the users of this transfered content own a legal copy of both games. The problem would be in putting AoP content online to be downloaded and used by those who have not in some manner paid for the use or possession of that content. In this hypothetical circumstance, I suspect they would take a dim view of affairs with recourse made to legal action again those who perpetrated the transgression of copyright and facilitated widespread infringment by distributing the files. Ironically for a company whose major line of business is in making games on the subject of piracy, they likely will not suffer to be the victim of said acts of piracy.

No problem modd'n POTC,AOP mate,as long as its not for profit,PA has some ties with Akella an they do stop in here from time to time, they never squak about our mods to POTC.don't see why they would with AOP. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Great news <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Unhappily i doesn't know how to convert ships like that, but is there anybody to convert those little floating jewels before i make some lil' reskins of all sorts with 'em?

About adding the ships from AoP:
Maximus added the three ships that are in there. If you want any info on how he did it, you should contact him.

For all I know AoP and PotC use the same file format, so you should be able to put the new ships in without any trouble just as you would add in new retextured ships.

One problem with the AoP ships is that the walk files can't be added, so the crew will be walking where they shouldn't be. This is a problem that can only be solved by making new PotC walk files, but so far hardly anybody has been able to and those who have been able to don't seem to be wanting to make any new ones for existing ships.

As for the legal matters:
I personally would like to add all the AoP content into PotC. The best would be to somehow use the best of both games to make the best pirate game in history.

However, adding AoP content into PotC is, of course, not entirely legal. As long as we don't add everything, Akella might not mind. But I don't know what would happen if we add in too much. It is possible to add in a LOT of AoP content, including ships, characters and even towns. At the moment we have no real policy on adding in AoP content. Maybe we should try to figure out some sort of policy about it though... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I was also thinking about the walk file problem, i guess the rest follows the normal ship adding procedure, i could use the winking, the only doubt i have is about locators, for exemple the gun ports, are the included on the model?

I don't know. Try to add a ship and find out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

You can also have a look at the models using Inez Dias' tool and having a look at the locators there.

I tried to add the pinnace... this will be longer that i tought, the texture was messed up just at looking at it in gmviewer... i don't know if i'll have time, but for info i'll have a look at the locators to see how it's done, did maximus gave signs of life recently?

Edit : The locators seems to be on the model (hmm i might be saying something evident) anyway i guess it wouldn't be a thing that would cause problem...

Maximus is quite alive. I heard from him a couple of days ago. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Hmmm since i'am quite noob, don't you know if he still plans to add ships from aop? we should ask him? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

If it isn't that hard to covert AoP to PotC... then I would love to see a little Multiplayer button on PotC's main menu!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Imagine playing the build online!!!

Crap! i would know more and having more time to learn and to do to add them all <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> if somebody would be interested in those conversions, what ships that would make!!!

Using AoP resource files is pretty possible. Using AoP source code however is not possible, I think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Multi or not, we must find a way to adapt those ships, that would be too bad, not to use them... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Just to let you all know...I just got a Russian copy of AoP, installed it, and took some of the ships and put them into PotC. Not only do they work fine, but they also look AMAZING! The only downside is the lack of a decent walk file, but I just removed it altogether as it is merely a cosmetic thing. Other than that, however, it is absolutely possible to run AoP ships in PotC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Dammit you rock!!! wich ones? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

*runs all around with smoke leaving his ears*

All of them should work just fine...right now I just have the corvette (beautiful ship!), the frigate, and the schooner in. I just had to reinstall PotC completely due to an over-written file (non-AoP related, just me being stupid <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> ), but I now plan to overwrite all of the stock ships with AoP ones...which means soon I'll have the Galleons, the Lineship, the Battleship, MoW, Fleut, and Pinnace as well. I'll post screenshots as soon as I'm done! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Have i ever said that i loved ya?

But why overwriting stock ship? we have done many job on the stock ones, we would loose some ships? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Anyway, that's stunning work lad <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
