Adding Cannon?

I really don't know how it was in the first Pirates! game, so this question may be obvious for some of you.

The screenshot here suggests that you may be able to buy cannons if they are available:

So does this mean that if you have a large ship, you can equip it with as many as the ship allows? And if so, how many will you be able to add max? 40 or so (on a very large ship, of course)?

Yes, in the original Pirates! you could buy and sell cannons. You can also take them from any ship you capture.

From what i recall, you may buy back cannons from a merchant during the same visit to the town. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> For instance, if during a visit to port, you sell off some extra cannon then, whilst tossing back some rum <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" />: , recruit a hardy crew, you can revisit the ship merchant and buy those guns back from him.

Otherwise, his inventory will always be emtpy of the cannon and they will have to be acquired thru piracy <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":|" border="0" alt="mellow.gif" />

Yes you can buy cannons in this game. But not just like oh piddly cannons. Certain merchants may sell better cannons than the next in the new version of this game.
