Well, I dont think ill email Akella anymore, it been increasingly hard to get anything now. And this handball without the forward thought of giving a contact at playlogic really seals it. William attempted to email Playlogic before and got no reply..

It's rather sad. the Q&A was the one i sent 2 months ago. And this is the only email i have had answered out of the last 4 i've sent. I dont think we will have much help in future from Akelle <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

It makes me shudder to think we all have to wait for the big sites to come out with the news of development of AOP...ala Atari feeding

Since now for any PR questions you must turn to Playlogic PR
department! Akella has started to lead PR action only on Russian
Federation territory!
 
Looks like another sell out, just what they did with Seadogs 2.
Money is the only thing they ever cared for. I find it strange that so many people believe in Akella's good intentions of bringing us a good pirate sim when in fact, they'd make a Holocaust sim if they had someone to buy it. It's Akella's way and it's always been like that.

As for you, Keith, I should check out Guinness Book of records, they probably have you there as The most patient man ever, but these s.o.b. of game development industry can frustrate the toughest of us.
I gave up on Akella years ago. The plain fact is that they are a company with no principles, no care for their customers and even the fate and the future of their titles. And from what I know about the development of AOP, it will make POTC look like a masterpiece of programming and beta-testing.

Well, at least FLS seem to be different. Their latest trailer impressed me a lot. POTBS looks just as pretty as POTC graphically yet it has so much more to it.

Well, you can always ask Akella to make a free pirate MMORPG, then wait for 5 years only to find out that they've decided to turn it into another blockbuster commercial at the last moment.

Besides, a monthly fee in POTBS is less than 50 bucks, which they'll probably charge you for AOP and I'm not sure you'll still be playing AOP after one month.

I'm more of an AOP-man then of POBS (afther all what i've seen of both games)

But its a hard world .. money is all that counts

I guess if you want a constantly changing and developing online world with new servers being launched, new island created, new ships introduced etc, there's no alternative.
I'm taking a wait and see approach towards POTBS myself, though.

Remembering POTC - there was never any support from the publisher, they failed to make a single patch for the game. And you can't call Bethesda a strictly console-oriented publisher.

Now this...Playlogic....seems to be just that. I wonder how many patches AOP gets this time. Unless, ofcourse, it won't need any support, which will be something unheard of in Akella's history.
 
I agree with seabro, playlogic seems an out and out console publisher. What i thought was Akella chose them to give themselves a free hand with PR & patches and that kind of thing, which possible the bigger publishers wanted control of.

Apparently not, with Svets response you would form the opinion they are subject to the publishers desire.

Though i havnt always had problems with them, it was when they old PR manager left Alex S. he was great, answer all my emails even if it was just to say "no, cannot" .

Hard to get to excited about fansite opportunitys though when this new publisher wont talk to you.

apparently, FLS know what they're doing, they have a huge community forum on their website and no one there is disgusted by the idea of paying monhtly fees. I just don't believe that Guildwars will last for long, it'll die as soon as people stop buying the game and the devs start another project. I agree with Seabro, actually, although the idea of ann MMOG without a monthly fee is awesome, it doesn't really work... So best way would be t make an own game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> no monthly fee and no problems with patches, updates and PR-Managers.

I will try to keep all possibilities for me.

So i will buy AOP, when it reaches the market and at the moment we are forming a new guild for PotbS with some Sealords-Members (looks like we will become Pirate hunters <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> ). Just the own game seems to be far away. About pobs after news of the fee reached my ears I know say that it is the worst pirate game ever. Any game that has a monthly fee automaticly sucks. Thats just my view I WILL be getting AOP by hoping that it has almost the same engine as POTC so we can start a huge and better modding community than potc was.
 
Actually I don't have problems paying a monthly fee if I have fun with the game and the addons are great.

I have seen the addons they are doing for Guildwars and compared to the one for City of Heroes (both games from the same publisher) they are simply well "not good enough" (to say it nicely). Since there is no fee with Guildwars that is ok.

But if you want true new content, there is no way past a monthly fee. That the reality.

Besides Guildwars is more a PvP Game, while PotBS will be more a RPG.
There is no way to compare Guildwars with the most other MMORPGs wich are running at the moment. Guildwars is simply diffrent.

About the publisher for AOP. I still have my hopes that the games will be good. Give the new publisher a chance. If it turns out to be a bad publisher, well then they are nothing better or worse then the other Pirate Game publishers then (remember ATARI).
