almost a legend....

I was thinking before about loading one of my old games up as memory of the game was probably better than the reality, then i was thinkin about what games almost legends, I want everyone to put a game down and why it was ALMOST A LEGEND..

Mine is - Trade Empires from Bullfrog.

Insane trading game across the world many different items and building with a good supply demand system based on the size of the city which grew when more items were supplied to it. looked pretty aswell

almost a legend because the AI was one of the most stupid in history, would spend all of its money making a road to your supply routs then have no money left to hire a caravan and then they would make a road from a->z without passing any other towns and so on..

thats my thoughts anyway

for me it would be 'darklands' from microprose (afair)

one of most innovative crpg's in history with wonderful character creation, set in medieval europe. and absolutly open-ended.

unfortunately, open-endness had a cost. darklands had 2 main quests and the rest was like totally random - which would be good if they had more than maybe ten quest templates... so u were doing the same all over... damn pity.

there were a rumor about addon - map of britain and much more content - but i didn't work out.

sometimes i look at modern crpg's and think 'damn! this part or that part was so much better in darklands!'

almost a legend...<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

God, how I loved Darklands!!! I never understood the Alchemy quite that much though. That part always got me ... It was fun to become Heroes in towns and clear out Hamlets involved in Witchcraft. And your characters aging!!! If you kept playing you were FORCED to bring in new players. It ruled!

This is what Home of the Underdogs lives for, I would think. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Heh, my wall is filled with them, but just one...Hmm.
How about Pacific Strike, a WWII flight sim by Origin, done in the Wing Commander / Strike Commander story-based sim style. Came out about the same time as MPS's 1942 Pacific Air War, much more of a straight sim (and much better /as/ a sim...) Wings of Glory gets mention for the same reason--not long after it came out there was Windows 95, and then Red Baron II...

I played to much games on too much different system to make a decision:

I started with something like pong on an old saba videogame, than i go from an atari Console, a Commodore C64, an Atari ST, the normal PC with just Dos and Windows 3.11 to a PSX and a modern PC with winXP

Each system had great games i really had enjoyed, but i'm sure most of them would be boring today.nevertheless i will post some of them.

- Pong on Saba - hey i can control my TV!!
- Pac-Man on Atari - Ha, i can beat my elder Brother!!
- Galaga 64 on C64 - What a sound, it is Starwars music, right?
- The Way of the Exploding Fist on C64 - My first Kung Fu Game
- Empires and Colonial Conquest on Atari ST - Playin' around the Clock with a friend! Great strategy Games
- Silent Service - My first Submarine Game
- Pirates Gold on Dos-PC - This is a Legend and i love it.
- Soulblade - The ultimate Fighting Game. Why there is nothing like this on PC
- AOS on WIn98 and XP - it will need some more time to make it a legend, but imo the best Naval Simulation in the Age of Sail, espacially because it has MP.

So these are my personal Legends. Mayby some games are totally unknown by all others here, but i will never forget the fun i had with many of them and still have with some.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/treas1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":treas" border="0" alt="treas1.gif" /> I agree totally with that , ive seen a few good fighting games for the PC like samurai showdown but having soul blade for PC would be great i loved that game

well it depends on which part of soulblade u think about:) if it's soul blade 1 (aka soul edge), it's accesible on pc through psx emulators - i played it on epsxe

The fun is to play Soulblade against another player. A feature i miss on PC and i don't think you get the emulator work with lan and internet <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Don't know about a Soulblade 2 or Souledge. I have it for the PSX.

thats a cunning plan zenith ill look into that <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

ha! there are net plugins for epsxe and yes, u can play thru lan/internet:) thou usually i play with friends in normal way, using two pads (dualshocks; they can also be used by pc)

better than that: epsxe makes use of modern video cards. well configured graphical plugin gives waaay better video quality that original psx:)

keith --> the place to start is here: www.epsxe.com

Sounds great - mayby i should also try <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
