Alpha 8 Black Screen

View attachment error.logWell... I have just installed build 14 alpha 8 Light ( Yes, I am 100% sure that i have installed it right. I have checked many times over). When I start the "New Horizons" and the "Bartemou-something" storylines, I get a black screen. I can go to the Main Menu and the f2-menu. This dosn't happen to any other storyline. I've checked the error-log, and it says that line 155 in the worldmap.C dosn't initialize. I have even tried to replace the worldmap with the one from alpa8 FULL. Same problem. It dont have anything to do with my graphic card, because I've played the FULL version before.

Any ideas?

I've had the same problem and I found that this happen when the engine can't load the character model, go to the F2-menu and look if the portrait of the character is still there

I don't understand these problems people are having.
I have tested the installation process myself and it WORKS.
The result is a game version with the exact same files and code as mine.
And my game version doesn't give black screens. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I'm confused as well, Pieter. I followed your instructions and build 14A8 works great, with just those quirks that have already been noted by everyone.

I had exactly the same problem,i had forgotten to delete the PROGRAM folder.

Before installing build version 14 did you delete the following files?:
-all the PROGRAM file
-RESOURCE\INIT
-RESOURCE\Locations\Decks(or something like it)

Yeah i did.
I deleted the PROGRAM folder, the RESOURCE/INI folder, and the RESOURCE/MODELS/LOCATIONS/DECKS folder.

To be sure we're all installing the same B14 alpha 8, this is the one we're supposed to use?

I see that you tried to install the light version,I recommend you uninstall and reinstall Pirates of the Caribbean,then you install build version 13 and then you do the full install of build version 14 alpha8,it is easier.

Indeed I HIGHLY recommend NOT using the Light version.
The installation process is ridiculously complicated and is bound to go wrong.
Only use it if you aready had Alpha 8 WIP 2 MAXIMUS installed before.
And even then only do so if the Alpha 8 Full download is too large for you.
If you can download Alpha 8 Full, do so and stay WELL CLEAR of Alpha 8 Light!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
