I play it in windowed mode at 1440x900 on my desktop with Vista. And it works marvelous.
hardly ever any crashes. I can play for days without a single one.
Ofc. It does crash on my rig also. But as I said. it's often 2-3 days in between. And it usually happens when either boarding a ship, or left clicking to chat with with someone to soon after saving. We're talking seconds or milliseconds.
Hey. I'm Impatient, Got ADHD. And I'm also an old school gamer, breastfeed "Save Early, Save Often, " from Sierra. So what did you expect?
You have no idea just how often I save (and I'm not talking about quicksave, that button I press like almost every 10 sec ;P)
So I kinda get why it crashes then. And I'm betting the autosave before boarding feature is the reason for the other crash.
But I'm getting off track here. I only wanted to say. COAS in widescreen works fine. But it's "Vert -" sadly, and not "Hor +" (also called NATIVE widescreen support. where you actually see more than with a 4:3 screen. kinda like if your installing a bigger window in your house. you then see more of what's outside)
"Vert -" it reduces the screen vertically to fit your widescreen resolution. Meaning you see LESS of the screen, than you would with a 4:3 monitor (kinda like just taping a 16:10 frame infront of your 4:3 TV) .
But seeing as I've yet to find a single monitor or gfx card that actually emulates 4:3 correctly on a widescreen monitor. I choose to loose a little bit of the upper and lower part, than having everybody look like stick ppl.
Looks more like 3:3 than 4:3 if you ask me. Which moron managed to make that blunder? Or even a better question. Why on earth haven't it been fixed? It's not like they haven't noticed yet. I mean. the expensive widescreen TV's managed to get the aspect-ratio correct (Yes, this applies to widescreen TV's too). So it's not like they haven't noticed. So WHY damn it, WHY can't they just apply that system to all new monitors and TV's they build?
I'm guessing one of these reasons:
1. Only the techs that created the system for the expensive ones noticed it. And the rest are actually clueless.
2. Everybody is clueless, and the only reason it's fixed in the expensive widescreen Monitors and TV's is just a fluke,
caused by using a different, more expensive component that wasn't designed by a moron.
3. Or... We're all being F#%ked over... Again.. And it's designed that way to make ppl buy the expensive stuff.
Dunno which one it is. But if it's nr.3. Well. Mission accomplished. Next time I'm shopping for a TV or monitor. I'm not going for the cheap stuff.
heh. Going off track again.. Well I just wanted to add that even though it's only Vert - . It still quite nice. only problem is with the interface. like buttons, menu's and profile pictures etc. It gets stretched. On a 16:10 monitor, I hardly notice. actually, I don't anymore. I had to double-check in the game to see if it was stretched or not, and it was. Slightly. On a 16:9 monitor it's going to be worse, and it's probably going to annoy the hell out of you.
So. there you have it. Don't think I've left anything out.
