Am I Seeing Things? (Whales?)

When you look at this screenshot, it looks like there are whales in the ocean. I have looked at this screenshot before but this is the first time I have noticed this…

And if they are whales, are they just there for eye candy…?

I don't *think* they're whales, Civrules... It's an anomaly of the ocean - if you look at the other places where there are strange trails on the ocean it is where ships have been and then moved. Jeff and Barry explained it as being something that was still being worked on - so these trails and oddities will not be in the finished game.

Maybe they are not whales, and they just added a weird screenshot to confuse us all (Jeff? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> ). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
 
I suspect it's just the graphic anomalies that Barry and Jeff mentioned - because William did ask about the trails - and the above was their explanation... Not everything is finished, graphically, yet.

i agree with Yankee, those are lookin like whales, its probley like in Port Royale, where they dont do anything, there just there for prostetic value.. wow big word

I can't poke too much fun, I'm the guy who keeps trying to shoot the sharks in POTC. Artistic details in these games can't help but make the game more interesting, look how much discussion it has generated.

And yes, I'm thinking that the goal of this screenshot was to show us that the game is more lively, and adding animals (such as the seagulls at the top right) will do just that.

If you pay close attention to all the screenshots, you’ll find things that can actually tell you about the game‘s features, and that they are not there just to display the graphics of the game and for eye candy.
