Hey gang.

I made a music pack, just a minor one. In my opinion it adds a bit more romance to the whole pirating thing <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Try it, see if you like it. If not, well, get rid of it and then curse my name to the rest of your days. Or not.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

EDIT: Unfortunately I can't seem to get the link working. I tried uploading it to the files category on the main page but that gives me a directory error. I uploaded it to the FTP, so I was wondering whether someone could move it to the proper place? Or atleast point me in the direction of a good file hosting place?

EDIT:moddingDIT: Can grab from the main server <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_details/gid,37/lang,/" target="_blank"><b>HERE</b></a> - <i><span style='color:green'>keith</span></i>

Thanks, <b>KiwisDoFly</b>! I'll try it when I manage to get round to playing PotC! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

As far as I understand it the ftp *is* the proper place.
Keith will once in a while move things from there to the main site, but most people just pick things up from the ftp (I think).

It might be too quiet for some people, but thats the way I like it. It doesn't interfere with the action. If disagree with me, you can modify the volume settings in music_alias.ini or wake up your neighbours by turning up the master volume while reducing the sound fx volume.

I think I´ll grap it to see how you did the things in the music_alias.ini, I´m having some difficulties there with my own music selection. So far I´ve used the standard names in the music_alias, which works fine, but adding more tunes doesn´t work the way I want it to.

Sweet, I'll try it as soon as possible. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Meanwhile, do you want me to write a toggle script so you can switch between it and normal mus / PGMus via buildsettings.h?
(Which reminds me of a better way to do that toggling, actually)

Eh, figured I ought to rewrite it anyway.
OK, instead of PGMUS as a define, I set up
#define MUSICSCHEME
in BS.h
stock is "", PG music is "_PGMUS", and yours is "_KiwisDoFly"
You then need to rename your music (I appended the same _KiwisDoFly to the filenames, but anything will do--all that matters is the names of the /aliases/), and add a complete duplicate set of aliases with your scheme's name appended, i.e.:
{Oh, and add a Main Menu alias too, for compatability...I added a default one below:}

That way we can have any number of different music schemes.

Now that's cool. I think we had a lot more music bits floating around that could be added in just the same way.

One suggestion: Instead of dropping all the files into MUSIC would it be possible to put each sound scheme into a subfolder ? Then you'd not even have to rename the files.

That is exactly what I was going to ask, Inez. We could have multiple packs installed, then. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thanks. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
{But this wouldn't be worth a hill o' beans if not for the _music_ so the thanks go mostly there. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> }

Ooh, good thought. Yup, we can certainly do that.
Problem is, SFAICS, we still need a complete duplicate set of aliases, we can't /directly/ control the music filenames. Well, we _might_ be able to, but IMO that's an inferior method because we can only play one at once (whereas the alias file lets us assign multiple tracks to a single alias).

But yeah, that's a better solution than just tagging files (although, the way the alias works, the files can have any name at all, and the alias file is the sole interface between the game and the files).

Rico: Yup. Using this method doesn't allow you to--by /only/ editing BS.h--mix 'n' match tracks, but it's pretty easy to do that with a little manual editing of music_alias. Just create a new scheme, say "_Mix", and choose what tracks you want for each music type.
Edit: Oh, did you just mean having more than one pack _installed_ at once, not selected at once? Yeah, certainly. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

KiwisDoFly, you see I've been reminded of my manners <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
Yes, *of course* thanks goes first to you for making the pack.

And I'd really love to see some more incorporated into the build.

OK guys, i have uploaded the file to the main server so please download it from <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_details/gid,37/lang,/" target="_blank"><b>HERE</b></a>

Ta <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

If you use name = MUSIC\KiwisDoFly\filename.ogg, would it work?

NK:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->But yeah, that's a better solution than just tagging files (although, the way the alias works, the files can have any name at all, and the alias file is the sole interface between the game and the files).<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ahem, no. At least, it doesn´t work for me. I tried to add some files into the ini (and had the respective files in the music folder of course), but they wouldn´t play. For example, I wanted more music for the map and the "spokplavanie" but it didn´t play.

Grimm: Hmm. Was there no sound at all, or did it just play the others rather than what you wanted? Because for some reason added music is very faint compared to the stock music.

Pieter: Yeah, think so.

It played tunes that had the original names, but after those, it stopped. Maybe it was very quiet, but I tried doing what you did with the Pirates! Gold music, add a volume command before the respective track, but it didn´t work.

Uh, that'd be KiwisDoFly. I didn't at the time think volume could be added to a music alias. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
If you want to try again, try it with music volume maxed--and _only_ your new tracks in the aliases--and see what happens...
