I have a game that I've been fiddling with off and on for the past couple of months. I took a sizeable amount of money and gave it to the Conceicao loneshark to hold, then signed articles with me crew. That was early on. I stopped in to Conceicao recently to divide the plunder, and found out that I had a nest egg in excess of 22,000,000 in gold waiting for me. So the crew took, their 25,000, and I a tidy sum of 1,500,000. Then I withdrew the 22,000,000+ and quietly bought a corvette, and set sail for Quebradas Costillas, never to be heard from again.

my character's story is like this

first I did a few jobs for merchants slowly accumalating money and getting better ships, after many, many jobs I bought a super frigate along with two light frigates and outfitted them with 24 pound cannons, joined Royal Navy and battled the French, Spanish and Pirates for years, after years of service was finally promoted to the rank of Marquess, proposed to governor Silehard's niece Mary successfully, stormed Falaise De Fleur with my squadron eliminating the french threat and then quietly settled down and passed out of notice

by the way: as far as i understand, signing articles means that u share all loot with crew, not paying them monthly, as a contrary to default mode, when u pay crew not sharing loot with them. if so, whose are money u loot? i mean, let's say that i didnt sign articles, have 2mio in pure gold spanish dubloons and let's say 20k in my 'private account'. if i didnt sign articles, all 2020000 should go to my private account... am i misunderstanding something?
 
the 2mio and something is crew money, not yours, u use it to pay for ships, upgrades, salary, etc.

Your personal money is a display of your wealthiness. Dunno if anything more than that.

the crew money never directly goes into your personal money.

it's not crew's money... it would be if i would share it with them, but no - they work for me because i employed them and i pay them monthly...

It is crew's money, but not a particular crewmember's money, it's money shared by all to make common purchases, methinks.
 
Lets just call it the SHIPS money.
Afterall it pays for her rigging, her crew, her captain and her great body
 
Actually, it´s the company´s money, but you own the company - as any independend merchant does. It´s a sort of a business account. If you´ve got a store, like, the cash in the register belongs to you, but you can´t so easily spend it on whatever you want, see?
 
Yeah. The Party's / Expedition's money. As Grimm says, precisely. One must remember that, in the Golden Age of Piracy, piracy was a _business_ above all, with strict rules. And with a rather lethal enforcement arm for those who did /not/ follow the rules.
 
Ah yes, that was my whole point in arguing about the ship's money vs. your own personal money paying for your officer's weapons and potions. If its something that helps the ship, or the "expedition", as Nathan says, then it should come out of the ship's money NOT your personal money. The personal money is there for YOU - it's not delved into when you divide the plunder, nor is it from which you pay your men... If you pay your men or divide the ship's money as plunder, then whatever you buy for the good of your company should come out of that stash, not your own.

I think there should be items the captain might buy that are of a personal nature - jewels for the wifey is one suggestion...
