Animists Quest Fix

I was aware of the "God hit us" bit from reading the dialog's code but I don't remember ever seeing it; I've only really bothered with that quest once or twice.

And yeah the first time I finished it, I was all excited at the prospect of seeing like some kids in those cells. I mean not in a mean way where I wanted to see imprisoned children, honest; just to see some kiddie models would've been cool. And that cave is so darn underused; I've been trying to give it some new uses. Like one of those three portions could totally be your own secrethideout treasure cove.

Thought de same way Alan, animist cave is underused, would make a great hideout after ye finsihed animist quest, maybe use de jail cell to throw a mutinous officer an crew members when ye rep reaches bloody terror ur sump'n like it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

aha, yeah... should do something with the cave after the quest, since I may use that whole tiny island for a lot more. Maybe it's yours or maybe someone else moves in... give more incentive to do the long-ass quest.

Ohhhkay...

I was going to post this last night, but the site was down and so I went off to dreamland... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" />

Nathan, I've emailed you my (presumably finished) files on this quest fix, sorry everyone, I can't offer it up right now on the FTP to betatest as I've had some computer and server woes here lately... SOON, I promise... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

In the meantime...

Here are some pix, if they show up:

Okay, my server STILL doesn't seem to be responding. Maybe later they will pop in once things get back to normal there. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

would be great te do something with de cave an Island after the quest is done,it seems such a waste,nice job Cat on de animist lair <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hmmm. I'm guessing you can see the pics, which is good!

I cannot, which is mystifying. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Thank you for the kind words. I like the way it came out - I think it is better this way, than to change the description of the amulet to describe the beetle pendant. It's just not quite the same... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Ohhhkay... Here's my fix for the Animists Quest - this is BETATEST ONLY, no guarantees it will work correctly - it seems to run fine on my computer, but I cannot test every angle or corner, so I bring it to you - kindly test this and let me know if there are things wrong with it.

Thanks... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ty" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->ftp://files@piratesahoy.net@ftp.piratesahoy.net/animist_quest_fix_cat.zip<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->Just copy and paste that into your web browser window and use the password <span style='color:red'>piratesahoy</span> when prompted - that should start your download. When you unzip the files, just copy and paste them into your PotC directory.

NOTE, make a backup of your PROGRAM directory FIRST - so if you need to, you can go back to your normal game (if something inexplicably screws up).

Those of you with FTP access, the file is named <span style='color:red'>animist_quest_fix_cat.zip</span> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> There was another up there but I deleted it.

You will, I believe, have to start a new game to test this - however give it a try with one of your savegames just to see.

ALSO NOTE that this was built upon a straight installation of PotC with B12 and all updates and the extra textures. If you are running other betatest mods you MAY NOT be able to run this.

Pieter, or whomever, kindly feel free to incorporate this into whatever modpack you wish, and as always, if anyone wants to use any part of this code or what-have-you, I consider it PUBLIC DOMAIN - have at it.

<i>Bon appetit!</i> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> (I need a vacation) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerbz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nerbz" border="0" alt="nerbz.gif" />

That's GREAT, Catalina!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
I have already merged it into my modpack and am uploading it right now. Not sure if it works; haven't tested it, because that would take a lot of time. I did notice that Diller doesn't have character portraits.
Great anyway! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />
(By the way: It seems to have been built on top of some version of PotCMods.zip)

Thank you, Pieter! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

It is entirely possible that I may have put some of the separate mods in there just as you first started integrating them; I think the Blacksmiths and CCC's weapons mod...

Anybody testing this yet?

Hey, great! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />
I'll see what I can do about reinit ASAP.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
I just thought I'd send in my findings on the beta Animists patch (Thanks Catalina! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> ). <b>Oh, and I mention some things below which could be considered spoilers for someone who hasn't done the quest, so you've been warned.</b> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

I installed the patch over a clean build 12.1 (no other mods) while I was already in the middle of the animist quest and decided to see how much of my progress I could salvage, knowing that not only a restart of the quest might be necessary but a restart of the game. Nevertheless, I installed the patch and loaded up my most recent save and did a reinit. Outside the tavern was the original neandertal lad and when I got to the Greenford prison, there was no Mystery Man. This was not shocking.

So I loaded up a save that was earlier in the quest, specifically just before the Padre is abducted. This time, the Rolph from Sound of Music lad was outside the tavern and, once at the Greenford prison, the Mystery Man was there too. So I was hopeful that things were going to proceed properly.

And, more or less, they did, until the end. Because I never completed this quest in the original game or in any previous build mod revision, I don't know exactly how it's supposed to play out. So I'll describe what happened.

When I got to the animist's lair, I killed all the animists (that was fun! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> ) and the leader. I got a ton of xps and a new quest log entry saying I'd killed them all. I checked the other rooms and the cells and the entire lair was empty. So I left. Once I got onboard my ship we were attacked by the Mephisto, which we captured. At this point I got the quest log entry "I have the children onboard...". Now, I went to the kid's moms first, since that made the most sense. When informed of their kids being saved, they walked away and I got some xps (they really should act a little happier, I'd think). Then I informed the governor, and got some xps and a lot of 'tude. Finally, I went to see Father Bernard, and got my reward there.

The only problem is the quest does not "complete" in the log. It shows as active with the last entry being "I have the children onboard...". I tried changing the order and going to see Father Bernard first, then the other two after, but this changed nothing. I also tried visiting the Padre, but this did not help.

I'm aware that at the very least I should have loaded to a save from before I received the quest, but unfortunately, I got the quest and then did a ton of stuff (including getting one of those keen black MOWs) so I decided I'd rather skip the quest if I must than lose out on all that progress. Oh, also of note, this was all after completion of the main game quest. I somehow never even talked to the moms until long after I'd dealt with the Pearl.

So I'm not sure what I've found out for y'all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> , but hopefully that'll be of some help. Please let me know if it sounds like something was very wrong at some point as I don't really want to continue my travels if I've mucked something up. If y'all need any more info, just ask.

Thanks again,
Greg

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Greg, and welcome aboard! Have an ale! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

Thanks for the test and your observations! They help immensely! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

You should have been able to talk to and "rescue" (giving him a key so he can release himself while you go to rescue the children from the Mefisto) Padre Domingues from one of the cells in the cave. He should have been generated into the cell after he was abducted. I'll check that too, I've just started to do this part of the game.

Yes, it really requires that you start a new game, however since you did not do the quest from the beginning, that doesn't really matter much.

The women just walking away was part of the original quest - I didn't embellish upon it too much. Now that you mention it I might do up a better dialog for them.

The Dutch governor has all the pomp of a supremely important human being dealing with an insignificant servant when he talks to you, but then again, that's how they did things back then... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> He gives you some money as a reward. The way I set it up, you should return the children first, so you didn't do anything really "wrong" or not in order.

I am not sure about why the questbook did not close, might be something I missed in the last minutes - I'll look that up... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

Honestly, I'm rather enamoured with the PA! community but forced myself to remain a lurker here for a very long time. But I'm very appreciative of all the build mod team's efforts. In fact, I think build mod is so good I'm actually worried I might not like AOP that much at the time of release after being so spoiled by build mod's much improved UI. Not that that will stop me from buying it. Gotta support the devs!

On the other hand, while in character I'd love them to gush after all that work, the way it is might not really be all that unrealistic. Once this is all beta tested, will it be going into the build mod? I'm toying with the idea of stopping my current play-through and waiting for build 13 and then do a full restart.

Marquess Greg,

Welcome to the site! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

You should lurk no more, (I can't criticise, I lurked for a long time before I got involved in the fun myself. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> ) we need all the input and involvement we can get around here! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

I try to restrict myself so as not to get caught up in such a great but ambitious project.
