Any hardcore sailors out there?

I've been wondering lately, if it's possible to sail from island to island without using the quick sail, map thingy...? Has anyone ever tried this? :cheers

hmm i remember before someone asking that question, cant rmember the answer sorry. But then you would really have to enjoy is though it would take forever...oh btw :cheers

Not possible due to engine.
Well, we may _eventually_ be able to implement something _sort_ of like this, wherein if you get far enough from an island in the right direction it loads a new island...
But time won't update, and no encounters or storms, etc., will occur.

Arg that sucks indeed...But I actually did sail about 5 miles out, as in I couldn't see the island anymore. Then I turned around and 30 mins later the island came back into view...

i was in a battle once and when i got back to map i was halfway to falaise from redmond. it was a long battle. 8)

when i first heard about sea dogs II, i was looking forward to sailing along the sea, spotting some sails way off in the horizon, having to look closely wit hyour spyglass to see if it's friend or foe; getting caught in storms and actually having to do stuff to keep your ship together... although, i can definately see that becoming boring quickly 8)

maybe POTBS wil be more like that

and ahoy :p3

Well, alexandaaarrrrr (great nick, LOL!), you can actually do that now with the "Coastraiders and Coasttraders" mod in Build 11. Although the storms won't generate when you're sailing around an island (not the overhead ocean view, but the sailing mode), you WILL encounter other ships, sometimes out on the horizon... You won't know if they're friend or foe unless you check with the "Sail To" function... It's kinda fun, I've been doing that just lately, trying to catch up to the pirates...

8) backatcha! :p3

thats awesome that makes it more realistic as far as tactics wise trying to get the wind into your favor and such

Oh yeah, it's been fun... I'm basically doing some testing on the Fred Bob mod I'm working on right now, but I got sidetracked - now playing at swashbuckler level, going around with FB as my only boarding officer, trying to find some challenges. Sometimes I die, but most times, we kick butt and take ships. :cheers

. i sink every pirate ship i come across. i could really use the skill points. what i do to make money: take the "pirate hunting" jobs from all the islands (about 70000 each boat) and also visit the stores and do the "deliver cargo to ___" and those are 100000+ gold so yea ive made a hefty sum. but any pirate i come along on the way to each islands i destroy, or board, always sink it. and ill take their crew. and i captain a manowar named "hell's seeker" and i use torn black sails with PA logo. beautiful ship at night in a storm. i guess im hardcore

dP, do you have the dark MOW with the white blue and red trim and the angel figurehead? She's a beauty! I love sailing her... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I tried sailing from Redmond to Oxbay without going to map mode. I aimed my ship on the right heading then put the game at 30x time. I don't think it is posible to do it because the game loads each island seperately. I also tried the same thing after I figured how close you can get before you hear "Land ho!" on the map, tried sailing towards the island on 30x speed again, but never got anywhere

quick question. i cant go to the stores anymore and do the deliver cargo missions anymore. somehow i lost my cargo going to oxbay, and geeze this really sucks it was like 5000 copra too. so when i talk to the store owner he sais "i have nothing for you right now" or something like that so i have no idea what to do and its been over a month now oh where did my cargo go? dont tell me its screwed up and i can never do it again.

Drewmastrap, try buying a shi'ite load of copra then deliver it to where you were s'pose to matey! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

ive tried buying the copra. it wont work <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> oh well. i can just make money by going to isla muell and getting a shuite load of ebony(sells at around 30 each), and selling it at redmond (buys around 500 each) what a hell of a profit

Aye! That sounds like fun ! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I've worked out a technique for getting as much 'real time' sailing in as possible - it took me about a week(in real life) to work out exactly what was going on with PotC and that it loaded in the island info. Still i now spend most of my time in 'real time' sailing.
Its a complicated process for those of us without the PC version of the game(and access to the mods) but if you want to find out more i created a thread about it at the 'apolyton' website forum<a href="http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116885" target="_blank">http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showthread....threadid=116885</a>

I was kinda surprised at the lack of response about the game - still my search for more info led me here where i can slake my Pirate thirst till the rum runs dry <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

<!--QuoteBegin-Rico+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rico)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I couldnt find the damn info about the `real-time` sailing! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":twisted:" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" /><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

True - it is full of other stuff too.

"Well i get the impression that the movie tie in had something to do with the 'arcadey' angle that comes across at times. I just tend to play it slowly.

I only ever use that overhead Map screen to orientate myself from time to time(as i dont think i can sail by the stars in the game?).
When you leave a port it will sometimes put you in the map navigation mode.
What i do is exit to the sailing mode(A button on xbox - not sure what it is on PC) - then i sail using the compass and the map linked above to go in the direction i reckon i should. I speed up the time while in this sailing mode.
Then every now and then to check where i'm at, i pop into the overview map screen(and usualy run into pirates!).
This slows the games pace down nicely and gives my imagination time to get into the beauty of the game world(It really is a great looking game).

So i would recomend just taking it slowly - my impression of the game is that i can choose to play it so it does become a much more realistic gaming experience.

The music and visuals, and all the attention to detail really brings the pirates thing to life for me - and i love the real time sailing around, its nearly just like real life sailing - It takes forever to get anywhere!

although i agree that a more realistic sailing model would have been great(its far too easy to just sail from a to b, you dont really need to use the weather that much, but maybe in a square rigger it would handle differently?)."

Is one quote from the thread link by child of Thor(post number 11).

Basicaly i was posting as i was discovering the best way to play it on xbox so you could get as much real time sailing in as possible. I'm afraid the thread covers other things i was discovering about PotC(xbox version). But it might help if you want a more hardcore sailing type game?
