Anybody notice that the sharks are too big?

Hi all,
Peiter , ------- (BTW Thanks for the unlock code)

This is how to rescale the model and the animation and raise or lower it.

MAKE A BACKUP COPY FIRST !

In TOOL :-

i.e. Shark -
(Ignore the skeleton & do'nt press "raise arms").

Select the Shark.an then select Shark.gm -- when it shows - press 'save gm' - ( saves as x file ) .
Reopen gm and select the shark_x.gm .

Select 'scene'--> Edit scene.

Edit Scene Panel :-

Second window - select shark .
Where it says Scale , make sure 'Scale animation also' is ticked .
Adjust scale with slider to its right -- when your happy with the size, press 'Save Animation'.
Then on the main TOOL panel select - File -> Save gm as >
(in the save As panel) > File name: [ Shark_x.gm ] > make that Shark_2_x.gm
Save as type : PotC-models(*.gm)

TO TEST :- Close TOOL then reopen it (it dos'nt show the 'my.an' if you dont).
First :-
Select Shark.an then Shark_2_x.gm to check it has actualy altered as required .
Then:-
Select 'my.an' then reopen Shark_2_x.gm > then keep your fingers crossed and press
Cycle Animation.

FILES:- You'll find the files in the games folders, RESOURCE > animation -the new animation file is the 'my.an' file >Put this file in a new folder on desktop -
then get 'Shark_2_x.gm' out of the RESOURCE> MODELS > Animals folder and put that in the new folder as well.
Save a copy of the x files just in case you need to alter anything later.

Rename the new files 'Shark.an' and 'Shark.gm' respectively if they are to replace all sharks,if they were you'd have to keep backup of originals in 'old Shark ' folder, or just remove _x from the name if you want to create an extra model.

To adjust the height :- (or all dimensions i suppose)

First run the resized model in game to find out what's going on - watch the animation to note its boundries, like the shark , I pictured (for the smallest one)that if it had another two sharks stacked on top of it - it would be about the right hight to break the surface when it should. Then I raised the model in Tool by two sharks and saved that animation.

So:-
Redo as with rescale, but only alter the hight with the nearest left slider to the save animation button

BTW, If you can't find the my.an file look in the TOOL program folder, at the Config. Settings file to see which POTC directory it's using - the animation folder it's using is in there. Thats if you have multiple copies of POTC.

So thats it.,
Lots of trial and error - seeing as the tools controls are'nt that finely tuned

Thanks very much. I added a link to this post to the <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=11380" target="_blank">tutorials thread</a>. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

you should make a new Topic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Hi.

Hector, go to the TOOLS program folder and open the vrmlexporter file. Reads as below.

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Pirates of the Caribbean // <---- Here
G:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Pirates ofthe Caribbean_Build14_alpha 8_wip1\RESOURCE\TGA Textures\Characters
chkAddX=True
chkAddToScene=False
chkDropLocations=False
AutoSetTextureDir=False
chkReverseNormals=False
chkChangeYZ=True

Look in:- RESOURCE\ animation, If its not there try doing it again.

It took me a few goes to get it. (Btw, the shark download is in my folder on ftp).

I tried to rescale a character but.. failed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerbz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nerbz" border="0" alt="nerbz.gif" /> Something is wrong somewhere.
I did found my.an and renamed it and ..nothing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Hi
Hector, I don't know whats going wrong for you then , I' just followed it through and it worked ok again for me. What are you trying to rescale anyway?

Cylon, just resized a character with working animation . it's a different method to the shark. I'll write it down and get back to you later.

What, something like this,
[attachment=1678:Lizardgator.2.jpg]

Tool > select lizard an. then select lizard gm > open > then save gm. Now open the lizard x then Scene \ Edit Scene > click on
lizard_x , make sure "scale animation also" is checked, re-scale and press "save animation"> Then click File \save gm as (name as lizard_2_x and save.

That gives you - lizard _2_x and the my an. Exit Tool.

Re-open Tool > Select my an. then open lizard_2_x and repeat the above precedure till its big enough (You won't do it in one go)

Hope thats clear enough , good luck.

Not much luck. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" /> I'm still getting those fingers of character in a very wierd shape. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Hi,
Cylon, try this

Tool > Open gm. > Select character > open >>
(Image visible) > Press Extras \ Raise Arms > Save Gm.>>
Open Gm > Select character_x > open >>
(Image visible) > Press Character \ Bind > then- Scene \ Edit scene > Select character >>
(rescale using sliders) > Save Animation >>
File > Save Gm. as > = Character_2_x > Save >>
Exit Tool.

Re-open Tool:-
Select my an.> then - Open Gm > Select Character_2_x > open >>
Press - Character \ Bind > then - Press - Character Drop & Centre > then- Press Cycle Animation and stop it when he is stood still in a natural position. (after he's done falling and sitting). -->
(When you stop him in a natural stance) > Press - File \ > Save Gm. as > Character_3_x .

Re-open Character_3_x with my an. and run the animation, should be as normal now.

Move files to another folder and re-name them as required.

Must be an easier way to lower arms than cycling animation and stopping it at right time. Can't think of one now though.

Should solve your problem.

I ran into the Stopping-the-animation-at-right-moment problem ..there's a moment where he does just stand without moving but its so friggin fast when that moment comes ..and that moment is BEFORE the walking animation.

Hi Hector,
Have you named the new gm. and the new an. files exactly as the originals?
Put the original files in new folders & name folders "old lizard"(keep them in same directories) , and name the new files the same as the originals were.

The only problem I can see is that the original lizard runs around in a small area ,and the new one will presumably use a large area, meaning it will probably run through scenery objects unless it detects collisions or walk paths.

Let us know what happens , I'll make another one myself and have ago.(deleted the one in picture).

Hi
Hector , just to let ya know that it works. Think they need a bit of re-modeling work though.
They look quite effective from a distance,but not so good close up.

Should have kept originals as backup .
I didn't see any at first, but when I re-loaded the save, they were there , lots off em.
