AOSII:PB Scenario and Campaign Editor

Glenn Cook

Powder Monkey
Akella's "Age of Sail II: Privateers Bounty" (PB) comes with a scenario (SE) and campaign editor (CE). You can modify any of the 147 scenarios or create completely new ones. You can change things like weather, landscapes, crews, ship performance, weapons, or build new ships. The CE links scenarios that you create with text and scripting to create a campaign.

The game manual provides instructions for both editors, however some points need clarification and the manual's pics are not very clear. ((If anyone has anything to add , question, or correct -please do))

Above: Menu with all selections shown open.
To create a new scenario, select a landscape, set map limits, add enities (ie ships etc), weather, objectives, etc.
There are 28 landscapes. They vary in size from large to small chains of islands with shoals. Many are mountainous with vegetation. Some are tropical ,desert (Egypt), or ice covered. Some have structures like forts, towns, docks, etc.

Map limits are set small for demo. The green square is Objective Area No1, and is located at the center of this (Egypt) landscape. Map limits and objectives effect the AI and how the game awards points. Double Click on the shoal to change it’s depth.

All three of the ship design windows are shown together.

Ships: Left click and drag from this window to place ship (e.g."Lively") or other entities on the map.
Ship Properties: You can use the default or edit each ship (or entities) characteristics.
Ship Details: Shows specifications. This can be used to design a ship from scratch and add to scenario.
Note: Edits to the ship's Properties and Details are stored within the scenario file and do not change the default details which are stored at path: ...resource/txt_res/ships.ini

There are over 2500 ships available with their specifications (ships.ini). AFAIK the ships from all three of the "Age of Sail" games were combined into this one game. I've compared some of these specifications to actual historic info and most match or very close while others could be better. Fire ships (Brander) can be created from 8-13 rate ships and directed at targets in a scenario. Exploding Fire ships (i.e. bomb vessel) and have their own unique AI. Fantastical submarine (turtle), paddleboat(steamboat), and a balloon are also available.
These +2500 ships share 22? physical models:
120 gun ship
100 gun ship
74 gun ship
64 gun ship
50 gun ship
40 gun frigate
44 gun frigate
32 gun frigate
28 gun frigate

14 gun schooner
10 gun cutter
8 gun cutter
