Are there skill, reputation or level requirements for getting the jailer to join you as an officer?

yepi

Landlubber
I have replayed that part a few times, and it seems that I can't get the jailer from redmond to join me.

By the looks of it, you need to have a leadership skill of 5 or higher and you must not have an EITC passport (if you're using the rewritten main quest in Build 14 Alpha 7 Plus).

Ugh...Leadership......Any quick way of raising that apart from doing the main quest? Thank you for the quick reply.

And another quick question. How would you go about inserting ships made by other players into the game?

What game version are you using? One of the Alpha's, I presume? With the Auto Skill System? According to Malcolm Hatcher: "You can improve Leadership by talking with people in towns, completing quests and paying your crew regularly."

even so, i've never managed to get my leadership above 5 using the autoskill system. and that's AFTER i've done all the sidequests. that's why i never use it. a lot of quest options dissapear because of the system.

Aren't there any non-quest ways of increasing leadership? Perhaps the quest leadership bonuses should be increased.

well, there are the pirate hunting quests, and the very slow way of talking to people. that's it. every pirate hunting mission gives you only one or two percent. and for 500 precent, that seems to me a veeeeeeeeery long time you need.

Do the cheats still work in Build14?

How many points do you get per level?

Would it pay to do some fake level-ups?

The cheats still work. They need to be enabled through the console though with a line <i>ENABLE_CHEATMODE = true;</i>. Fake level-ups wouldn't help though; these don't increase the skills anymore with the Auto Skill System on. However, you CAN set your leadership skill using PROGRAM\console.c. Find this code:<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->void ExecuteConsole()
{
    ref pchar = GetMainCharacter();
    ref ch;
    int i;<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->Add a line below this: <i>pchar.skill.leadership = "5";</i>
Load your savegame, press F12 and you will now have a leadership skill of 5 and will be able to hire Attwood.

just a note:

i did my testing at maximum skill increase speed. (definable in buildsettings)

you wont need to start a new game if you turned the auto stat off

and O.O peter doesnt know the ins and outs of the mod despite he created it?

Good. I was afraid some thing might be messed up when you turn it off in mid-game, but if it works for you, that's great! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Nathan Kell compiled all mods until Build 12 and wrote a lot of the code himself. For Build 13 I ended up taking over from him, so I put the mods made by other people together on that version. I didn't actually make many mods myself. I hardly understand everything. I would even go as far as saying I hardly understand anything. I think modders usually understand their own mods best. But the Build mod was the combined work of many different modders. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

no, it doesn't cause any problems to change it mid-game, but i HAVE seen that changing the skill increase speed makes the system act a little wierd. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> although i don't exactly remember what happened, the speeds got a little messed up. nothing of big influence though.

the only reason i felt that he created it was he was like the only big shot arround the forums

and if you dont believe me youre free to try it out
