I started a game on the new build and opted to bypass the oxbay invasion by washing up on shore elsewhere. I found my way back to me ship after cuttin a path through the natives of the island. Once I got off the island I was try'n to find a storyline ta follow and wound up landing at greenford as a level 2. When I left the port the french ships that were invading apparently had a hard time of it, as I saw the warship raise her white flag in the distance, so be'n the pirate that I am, I swept in to investigate. I boarded her without a fight, and spoke to her captain. He handed o'er the Warship along with it's 4.5 million in coin. I was a bit taken back.. 4.5 million as a level 2 without cheating in any way, and without fighting. I'm think''n I may have to restart the game, since now it just seems like my char has nothing more to strive for, owning the warship that he does, and being rich ta boot.
 
nice one mate... I simply figured that those french warship were too much fer me little ship at that point... so I ran... maybe i should try and take them on though... sounds really profittable :p
but then again, it requires that they raise the white flag first....

Your character still has alot of things to do, you can still become a higher level and get a better reputation... And there are still alot of french and spanish ships to plunder :-D

another way of getting alot of money is to have two or three BIG ships... with lots of cargospace... then just take some merchant missions... Alot of money and alot of XP... and not too much work :-D
 
i raised POrtuguese flag, swam to french warship, class one, and on level 1 fought my way through, taking over the vessel... then i destroyed second ship and third swiftly surrendered, i plundered it, killed the crew and the captain and sailed away... (adventurer level) by the time i was done, i got to level 5... i will try the highest diff option now, hopefully it will be more challenging...

before my game was erretrievably damaged, i was always going on swashbuckler level, looking for something of a competition on the high seas. my Man of War, named HMS Victory [goes with the name <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> ] and a battleship, HMS Defiance, were my main ships. i had left the other 2, both battleships, docked. i ended up experiencing a "semi Trafalgar battle".
i was sailing into a spanish fleet of 13 MOWs and 2 battleships. in the end, i was sunk <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />. but my life boat got me back to the berthing safely. funnily enough, my battle ship was right behind me, shredded sails and all. fixed it up, and got another battleship out of berthing, named HMS Vanguard, another of nelson's ships' names. i added the last battleship, HMS Collosus, to join me as a supply ship, carrying extra cannonballs, sailcloth and planks. it had more HP so it was a safer choice than either the vanguard or the defiance. when i finally got another MOW, it turned out being even better than my previous. being 2.0 faster and 4.5 better maneuverability. renamed it "Victory". ah...good times....good times... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />
 
hehe... lucky you Nelson... 13 MOWs are quite a handfull... since when they fire they've got some 1300 cannons to shoot at you with...

I had a MOW too, i called it "The Punisher"... sounded like a fitting name to mee... Now though I only have a Battleship and a heavy frigate... but they are some neat ships too...

My flagship (the frigate) is of course named "The Unsinkable III" :p

I cant quite remember what my battleship is called, but since i play a female pirate it's probable "PMS cranky"...

I tend to give my ships funny names...

But I am only meeting ghostships, so I cant really get in to all them big fights :-(

also, the name of the ship seemed to be something to encourage the crew on board. the Punisher would look like it was made to Punish the Crew, rather than the enemies. but it's your ship. its entirely up to you. personally i always name my ships after Nelson's. with the right rate to the name. i never give the name Vanguard to any ship bigger or smaller than the Battleship. HMS Victory is an exclusive name for my Flagship MOW, which had a gaff/boom driver sail, and had the original red and brown colour sceme, since no other MOW had the right bow cage to look close to the victory. in looks, the red and brown one was always closer to HMS Victory than the others. it was also the fastest and slowest! my fastest MOW was red and brown, and my Slowest, heaviest, most well armoured MOW which also had the largest cargo hold was also red and brown. i used it as my supply ship on good days in game, when i had both the cash and the crew to control it. my only battle ship among MOWs, the HMS Vanguard, was usually my pursuit ship, when the survivor of a battle was getting away, i would switch between the Victory and the Vanguard, command all my ships to stay put, and chase the bugger down and sink her. of course, the Vanguard was put in Greenford [is that the name? it's been AGES since i last played the game] berthing when i got hold of the Black Pearl, which was the most heavily armoured and the fastest ship i had. the Victory for the main battle, and the Black Pearl for the chase down and final destruction of the survivors. yes, i am BRUTAL on the high seas. merciless. just wait til AoP comes out and there'll be a new nightmare on the high seas. one that would make the Flying Dutchman's crew shake! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />
 
Unfortunately, both unsinkable I & II had a builinding/construction flaw... they began taking in vast masses of water after a run-in with the spanish marchantfleet (merchants run heavily armed)... I tried to track down the shipbuilder, but blast it... he had left the archipelago :-S

but both of them were smaller ships too (Xebec CT i believe)... Nice little racing boats, but not too tough around warships and the likes... also i might have gotten a bit too zealous... what can you do????

I never tried sailing the black pearl... It wouldn't let me board it, so I sank the bugger... If I can't have it, then noone can!!!

I like MOWs mostly for the joy of utter destroying other ships, but at one time a charged a real little boat in a MOW, i sailed roght over it... it came at a ninety degree angle on me, and got caught in front of me... it was really great fun <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
 
MOWs are always fun. maybe they look a bit on the empty side, but they're still fun. so much for "Unsinkable" lol.
The Black pearl IS boardable in the latest build mods i think. ask Pieter boelen for more info.

MOWs are great fun... its a tank with sails :-D

its still a great name... MY latest unsinkable was a heavy frigate and it was nigh indestructible.

Pieter is incredible, he can answer almost any questions... and he does it very fast. he's just great

The Pearl's crewmembers can die just as other enemy boarders would die. They're not immortal in the game, otherwise you could never capture the Pearl. Just pretend you knock them out, rather than kill them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

no sweat mate... I haven't got any problems with the game for the time being,... though i don't have much time to play... which may explain alot :p

pieter, if your still on, could you add that new model Black Pearl to the next Pre Build 13 release as The Black Pearl at the end of the game? give the veteran captains and the returning Admirals [guess who <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> ] something to really smile about! if we could get a super fast ship like that, with new shredded sails AND such a lovely look, i'm sure Admirals, Captain, Pirates and Smugglers would all be happy! [well, except for those who are against it... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ]

I am going to add the new Black Pearl into the next modpack update, but I'm not going to replace the current Black Pearl with her yet, because the new Black Pearl isn't entirely finished yet. Once she's done, I'd be happy to replace the current version. After all: The current version doesn't look much like the real Black Pearl and the new one does. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

BTW: The new Black Pearl doesn't have such good ship stats as the old one. She isn't incredibly strong not very fast. The stats still need to be worked on. I would personally like it if she would be a very strong and fast ship when you have to sink/capture her, but after you captured her, she shouldn't be an "uber-ship" anymore. A bit like the PotC 1 Pearl vs. the PotC 2 Pearl.
 
well, The Black Pearl's speed, but normal power. Jack Black's latest torn sails, and we have the Perfect Black Pearl.
 
The unsinkable III havent sunk yet mate... seems like this one has no built-in flaws :p

I would also very much like to see the new black pearl, i saw the screenies... WOW!!!! It looks awesome!!!!

trust me, every ship has built in flaws <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . even my MOW! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

personally, i think that one of the first things i'll add to my game when i get it, is the black pearl. i just need instructions to replace the old one. we also need to make it one of a kind, so we don't randomly see the pearl. after seeing the ship, i started going nuts over the fact that many people are playing with it and my game hasn't even been ordered yet!
 
the pearl is a nice little boat... aye... I havent got it yet... so im lokking forward to it as well... you haven't got the game??? i thought everybody here had it...
 
i used to have it...until my 4 year old bro took the 1st CD, and smashed it to pieces. i still had a copy of the first one, which worked. after 4 years of having the game, my C/ drive was formatted. i went through with it, bored of it due to the lack of changes in the Build mod. after a while, i decided i'd install PotC, but found it didn't work! i tried it in the CD drive and DVD drive, but it didn't work. so now, after several months of being without it, i'm absolutely itching for it, along with Jaws Unleashed. i want to sink and eat things!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I am waiting for Hook's and IncredibleHat's new fixpack, because I want to add those fixes into the next modpack as well. I also want to add some mods of my own that I have yet to finish or start on. If everything goes allright, we'll have a new one end this weekend.

The Black Pearl from the FTP can be installed on the 28 August update without problems.
